Adding a two-sided safety is one of the easiest upgrades you can make to an AR, and the Watchtower Firearms SSKGRN kit gives you a clean way to do it with a splash of green color to match a build. You get a long paddle and a short paddle so you can set up the levers however feels right for your hand, plus the tumbler, detent, spring, and two screws that make the whole thing work. The selector runs a standard 90 degree throw, which is the most familiar and positive feel for most folks who grew up on a traditional AR safety.
The screw-secured paddle design is straightforward to work with, which is nice if you like being able to tune your lever setup down the road. Ambi controls aren't just a lefty thing either. Even right-handed folks tend to appreciate being able to flick the safety on with the knuckle of a firing hand without breaking grip, and it makes offhand and support-side shooting a whole lot smoother. A quick tip from the bench: a dab of thread locker on those screws keeps everything staying put through recoil.
This is a beginner-friendly job that most people knock out in under fifteen minutes with basic tools. You'll pull the pistol grip with an Allen wrench, keep an eye on the detent and spring so they don't go flying, slide the old safety out and the Watchtower unit in, then button it back up and run a function check with the rifle unloaded. Move it from safe to fire a few times and confirm the hammer stays put on safe before you call it done.
The green anodized look is a great fit if you're building around a themed color scheme or just want your controls to stand out from a sea of plain black parts. It's a simple, tactile upgrade that adds real-world usability and a little personality at the same time.
Yes. The kit comes with both a long paddle and a short paddle so you can set up a lever on each side of your lower. That gives you two-sided control, which is handy for left-handed users and for anyone who wants to safe the rifle without breaking their firing grip.
It runs a standard 90 degree throw from safe to fire. That's the classic AR feel most people are used to, with a very positive, defined detent click at each position. If you prefer the traditional setup over a short throw, this fits the bill.
It's one of the friendlier AR upgrades and usually takes under fifteen minutes with basic tools. You remove the pistol grip, keep track of the detent and spring, swap the selector, and reassemble. Always finish with a function check on an unloaded rifle to confirm the safety holds the hammer on safe.
The paddles are secured with the included screws, and like any threaded fastener they can benefit from a little help. A small dab of blue thread locker on the screws before final install keeps them from walking out under recoil. Snug them down but avoid over-torquing.
