The ProMag Archangel AA98 takes the classic large-ring Mauser 98 action and wraps it in a modern, adjustable chassis built for accuracy. It's molded from a carbon fiber and glass reinforced polymer that shrugs off hard use, and the whole platform is designed around a precision inlet with steel pillar bedding and a free-float barrel channel. The result is a bolt gun that feels a whole lot more like a modern precision rifle and a lot less like something your grandfather carried in the field.
The fit-and-finish here is aimed at repeatable accuracy. The forend and inlet are cut to fit and float surplus military barrel contours, and they can be opened up for heavier aftermarket barrels. There's also a patented barrel tensioner built in, which is handy for those barrels that shoot better with a touch of forend pressure. The gooseneck-style grip has ambidextrous palm swells for a natural hold, plus a locking storage compartment tucked into the grip for small essentials.
Comfort and repeatability come from the adjustments. Length of pull is thumbwheel click-adjustable from 13.5 to 14.25 inches, and the cheek riser clicks in .05-inch increments with 1.5 inches of total travel, so you can line up your eye behind glass without craning your neck. A soft, contoured rubber recoil pad tames the kick from stout 8mm loads. Three integral steel hardpoints accept QD sling swivels, though the swivels themselves are sold separately.
One of the nicer touches is the detachable magazine setup. Instead of stripper clips and a fixed internal box, the AA98 runs a 10-round Type B polymer magazine, and it ships with a 5-round limiter for anyone who wants a lower capacity. The stock is also pre-inletted to accept a Timney Trigger (part #301 or #302) with no extra fitting, making a crisp trigger upgrade an easy next step. Expect some inletting work on the barrel channel during install, which is normal for surplus rifles with varying contours.
It's built for the classic large-ring Mauser 98 action, including German K98s, Czech VZ-24, Yugo 48 and 48a, and Turkish 1903, 1937, 1938, and 1946 rifles in 7mm or 8mm. It will not fit small-ring Mausers or the large-ring Swedish M38/96 in 6.5×55. If you're unsure about your specific rifle, it's worth confirming your action size before ordering.
Many surplus Mausers drop right in, but because military barrel contours vary from rifle to rifle, plan on some inletting to the barrel channel for a clean free-float fit. It's a straightforward job for anyone comfortable with basic gunsmithing, and the payoff is a properly bedded action. The stock includes the action screws and Allen wrench you'll need for the install.
Yes. The AA98 comes pre-inletted for a Timney Trigger with no additional modification to the stock. Use part #301 for small to average hands, or #302 for larger hands and a slightly longer reach to the trigger.
It ships with one 10-round Type B polymer detachable magazine plus a 5-round limiter. This converts the K98 from stripper-clip loading to a modern detachable mag setup. The Type B magazines are interchangeable across the AA98 and AAT3 long-action Archangel stocks.
