Wood grips look great until they crack, swell, or wear smooth. The ProMag Archangel AA107 grip panels solve that problem with lightweight aluminum alloy and a mil-spec hard anodized black finish that stands up to hard use a lot better than most factory panels. The machined diamond checkering gives your hand real purchase without chewing it up, so the pistol stays planted through recoil whether your hands are dry, sweaty, or gloved.
These panels are sized for standard full-size Government model 1911 frames, and the slim aluminum profile keeps the grip feeling trim in the hand. That is a nice change if you have ever run thick rubber or G10 panels and found the frame ballooning past where it is comfortable. At well under half a pound for the pair, they will not add noticeable weight to a carry or duty gun either. The matte black anodizing pairs cleanly with blued, stainless, or Cerakoted frames, and shooters have run them on everything from Springfield and S&W 1911s to Sig and Taurus builds with good results.
A few things worth knowing before you install them. Like most aftermarket 1911 grips, minor fitting may be needed on some pistols, especially around ambidextrous safety levers or frames with slightly off-spec screw bushing spacing. They reuse your existing grip screws, and if your screws sit a touch shallow, a thin O-ring under each screw head snugs everything up nicely. That is a common trick with metal grip panels in general, not a knock on these specifically.

These panels are designed for standard full-size Government model 1911 frames. Most Commander frames share the same grip dimensions as the Government model, so they generally fit, though clones and budget imports can vary slightly. If your frame is off-spec, expect to do a little light fitting.
No, these are just the two grip panels. You reuse the grip screws and bushings already on your pistol, which is standard for 1911 grips. If your screws sit a little loose against the aluminum, a thin O-ring under each screw head will snug them right up.
Not out of the box. Like most standard 1911 panels, the right grip is not relieved for an ambi safety lever. Aluminum is easy to work with though, and some owners have notched the panel themselves with a small file or Dremel to clear the lever.
The diamond checkering hits a good middle ground. It gives you a noticeably more secure hold than smooth wood or plastic panels, especially with sweaty hands, but it is not so sharp that it shreds your palm during a long range session. It also will not snag clothing badly if you carry the pistol.
Most installations are a straight bolt-on, but ProMag notes that minor fitting may be required on some pistols. Frames from different makers vary slightly in bushing spacing and contour, so a small amount of filing or adjustment is occasionally needed for a flush fit. It is a quick job with basic hand tools.
