The Allen ULTRX Heavy Sound Defender is passive hearing protection done right, which means no batteries, no electronics, and nothing to charge before you head out. You put them on and they work every single time. With a 26dB Noise Reduction Rating, these muffs seal off your ears with acoustic foam and cushioned cups that block the harsh crack of gunfire, power tools, and heavy machinery. It's a set-and-forget kind of protection that a lot of folks keep coming back to because it just does the job.
These are built around comfort for the long haul. The ear cups are extra padded and the headband has a soft cushioned pad up top, so you can keep them on through a full range day or a long stretch of yard work without your ears feeling pinched. They ride over the head in the classic style, and the whole thing folds down compact when you're done, so they slide easily into a range bag, tool box, or truck console.
A passive muff like this shines when raw blocking power is what you're after. Indoor ranges bounce sound off the walls and get loud fast, and high-NRR passive muffs handle that better than most electronic sets since there are no components eating up space inside the cup. They also make a great muff layer for double protection, worn right over a set of foam plugs when things get really loud. One thing worth knowing going in: passive muffs block everything, so you won't get amplified pass-through for hearing range commands or conversation like you would with an electronic pair.
The ULTRX line from Allen covers a full range of ear and eye protection, and the Heavy Sound Defender sits at the higher-protection end of the muff lineup. For casual range days, workshop time, mowing, or as a reliable backup pair to keep on hand, it's a solid, no-nonsense choice in a clean gray finish.
They carry a 26dB Noise Reduction Rating and are tested to the ANSI S3.19 standard. That puts them among the higher-blocking passive muffs, which makes them well suited for loud indoor ranges and heavy shop work. For very loud setups, you can also pair them over foam plugs for extra protection.
The Heavy Sound Defender is fully passive, so there are no batteries, microphones, or amplification to deal with. You just put them on and they block sound right away, every time. That also means they won't amplify range commands or conversation the way an electronic set does, but they seal off harmful noise reliably with zero maintenance.
Yes, the design folds down compact so they take up minimal space. That makes them easy to stash in a range bag, tool box, or truck console between uses. The cushioned ear cups and padded headband also keep them comfortable enough for extended wear.
They're built with extra padded ear cups and a soft cushioned headband specifically for longer sessions. Most folks find they can wear them through a full range day or extended yard and shop work without discomfort. The over-the-head fit keeps a steady seal without pinching.
