CMMG's Compact Action tucks the entire recoil system into the upper receiver, which means the buffer tube is gone and the side-folding stock on this rifle is fully functional, not a gimmick. Fold it and the whole package shrinks down for a truck, pack, or safe shelf, then snap it out and you're back to a proper 16.1 inch 5.56 carbine.

Yes. Even though the action itself is a departure from the traditional AR, the Mk4 lower feeds from standard STANAG-pattern AR-15 magazines. It ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG, and anything else in your mag pile will run just fine.
CMMG's Compact Action moves the entire recoil system into the upper receiver, so there's no buffer tube extending behind the lower. That's what allows a true side-folding stock. Since nothing cycles through the rear of the receiver, the design stays reliable with the stock deployed and makes for a much shorter package when folded up for transport.
It's one of the better factory setups for it. Yes, it's a genuinely lefty-friendly rifle.
