The body is laser-welded stainless steel, which handles corrosion, wear, and repeated loading cycles better than most alternatives. Inside, a high-tensile steel spring and anti-tilt polymer follower work together to keep rounds properly aligned and feeding smoothly. Numbered witness holes on both sides give you a quick round count without having to drop the magazine.
The included Mod.2 X-Tension grip sleeve is what separates this magazine from the flush-fit 5-rounder. The sleeve extends the grip surface past the frame of the pistol, giving you more real estate for your hand, which makes a genuine difference in control on a compact single-stack .45. The textured polymer sleeve is specifically designed for the Mod.2 frame profile and integrates cleanly with the grip without creating snag points.
One important note for XD-S owners: this magazine is designed specifically for the XD-S Mod.2. While the magazine body itself is compatible with the original XD-S, the Mod.2 X-Tension sleeve is a different design than the sleeves used on first-generation XD-S magazines, so the sleeve fitment is not interchangeable between generations. Make sure you are ordering the Mod.2-specific version for your pistol.
The steel magazine body itself is compatible with both the original XD-S and the XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP. However, the Mod.2 X-Tension sleeve included with this magazine (XDSG5006) is designed specifically for the Mod.2 frame geometry and is not the same as the sleeve used on first-generation XD-S extended magazines. If you own an original XD-S, the magazine will function, but the sleeve may not seat flush against the grip the way it does on the Mod.2.
Yes. The XD-S Mod.2 ships with two magazines: a 5-round flush-fit mag and this 6-round extended magazine with the X-Tension sleeve. The XDSG5006 is a genuine OEM part made to the same specifications and tolerances as the factory-included magazine, so it's a true like-for-like replacement or additional spare.
The X-Tension sleeve extends the grip surface below the frame of the pistol, giving your hand more contact area. On a compact single-stack .45 like the XD-S Mod.2, that extra grip real estate helps with control, especially for anyone with medium to larger hands. The sleeve also has textured stippling that matches the Mod.2 frame aesthetic and helps it blend in with the pistol's grip.
The sleeve is removable, so technically yes, the magazine will still function without it. That said, the steel magazine body will protrude past the grip without the sleeve in place, which can be awkward for carry or handling. For range use it is not a problem, but for EDC the sleeve is there for a reason.
This magazine (XDSG5006) is designed specifically for the XD-S Mod.2 platform chambered in .45 ACP. As long as your pistol is an XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP, you are good to go. It will not fit XD-S pistols chambered in other calibers, and it is not compatible with the XD or XD Mod.2 platforms, which use a different single-stack vs. double-stack magazine design.
