Description

Some rifles are built to sit in a rack and some are built to get shot. The Henry Silver Eagle manages to be both. It takes the Golden Boy platform, one of the smoothest rimfire lever guns ever made, and dresses it up with a nickel-plated receiver covered in scroll engraving on both sides. The pattern traces back to the Serial Number 9 Henry rifle that the New Haven Arms Company presented to Gideon Welles, Lincoln's Secretary of the Navy. Henry worked from original photos and hand drawings of that gun to cut the master plate for this engraving, so the details have real history behind them rather than random flourish.

A Silver Eagle That Earns Its Keep at the Range

Underneath the polish, this is a working rimfire. The 20-inch blued octagon barrel carries a 1:16 twist and wears a Marbles fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with a reversible white diamond insert, paired with a brass bead up front. That sight picture is quick to pick up on squirrels, steel plates, or soup cans, and the octagon barrel adds just enough weight out front to settle your hold. Overall length runs 38.5 inches and it weighs 6.75 pounds, so it shoulders like a proper full-size rifle instead of a toy.

Feeding the Henry Silver Eagle H004SE

The tube magazine loads through the classic brass follower up front and swallows 16 rounds of .22 LR, 18 Long, or 23 Shorts. Being able to run all three means cheap plinking sessions, quiet backyard-pest duty with Shorts, and everything in between without changing a thing. The lever throw is short and slick right out of the box, which is a big part of why the Golden Boy family has such a loyal following.

Walnut, Nickel, and Old-School Craftsmanship

The fancy American walnut buttstock and forend are set off by a nickel buttplate and barrel band that match the receiver, giving the whole rifle a bright, two-tone look against the deep blue of the barrel and lever. It makes a fine gift, a great heirloom candidate, and an even better excuse to buy a brick of ammo and spend a Saturday behind the sights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Henry Silver Eagle shoot .22 Short and .22 Long, or just .22 LR?

It handles all three. The tube magazine holds 16 rounds of .22 LR, 18 rounds of .22 Long, or 23 rounds of .22 Short, and the action cycles all of them through the same chamber. That flexibility is one of the best perks of a rimfire lever gun like this.

How do you load the Silver Eagle H004SE?

It loads through the magazine tube rather than a side gate. You twist and pull the inner brass tube out from the front, drop rounds into the loading port on the tube, then slide it back in. It takes a few seconds longer than a side gate but it is simple, reliable, and the traditional way Golden Boy pattern rifles have always fed.

Is the receiver on the Henry Silver Eagle real silver?

No, it is nickel plated, which gives it that bright silver appearance while holding up far better to handling and wear. The scroll engraving covers both sides of the receiver cover and was patterned after the historic Serial Number 9 Henry rifle presented to Navy Secretary Gideon Welles. A quick wipe-down after handling keeps the finish looking sharp.

Does the Silver Eagle have a manual safety?

There is no crossbolt or lever safety on this rifle. Like other Golden Boy based Henrys, it uses a traditional exposed hammer with a quarter-cock position for safe carry. It is the same setup lever guns have used for well over a century, and it keeps the lines of the rifle clean.
