Most folding rifles hinge in the middle. The Trailblazer PIVOT does something different: press a button and the entire upper receiver rotates around the lower, swinging the barrel back alongside the stock. The result is a true 16 inch barreled 9mm carbine that collapses to just 20.9 inches long and stays a slim 1.15 inches wide, folded or deployed. That design earned the PIVOT the 2024 American Rifleman Golden Bullseye for Tactical Gun of the Year, and once you handle one, the hype makes sense. This version comes dressed in a clean Olive Drab Green finish that looks right at home in a pack or a truck.
There is no shortcut on performance here. The 16 inch barrel squeezes noticeably more velocity out of 9mm than any pistol will, and it comes threaded 1/2×28 so you can run a suppressor or muzzle device. The direct blowback action feeds through the pistol grip using Glock pattern magazines, which means cheap, plentiful mags you may already own, and a 10 round magazine ships in the box. Up top there is Picatinny rail for a red dot or optic of your choice (no sights come installed), plus M-LOK slots on the lower for a light or other accessories. The three position collapsible stock adjusts length of pull and even stashes a spare magazine so the rifle stays self contained.
Trailblazer thought past the party trick. The PIVOT will not fire when folded, cannot be closed with a magazine inserted, and carries an ambidextrous manual safety on top of all that. The non-reciprocating charging handle locks up when folded and deploys with a quick slap. At right around 5 pounds, it is light enough to forget about in a backpack on a long hike, and this American made carbine goes from stowed to shouldered in seconds. For a trail rifle, vehicle setup, or just something genuinely fun at the range, this one is hard to put down.
Instead of hinging in the middle like most folding carbines, the PIVOT's entire upper receiver rotates around the lower with the press of a button. Folded, the whole rifle measures just 20.9 inches long and stays only 1.15 inches wide. Deploying it takes a couple seconds, and with a little practice it gets even faster.
It feeds from standard Glock pattern 9mm magazines through the pistol grip, so mags are cheap and easy to find. This model ships with one 10-round magazine, and the collapsible stock has built-in storage for a spare. If you already own a Glock 9mm pistol, your existing mags will run in it.
No, it ships without sights. The top of the receiver has a Picatinny rail, so most owners mount a red dot or low power optic, and there are M-LOK slots on the lower for a light or other accessories. Plan on adding an optic before your first range trip.
No. The rifle is designed so it will not fire in the folded position, and it cannot be folded closed with a magazine inserted. On top of those built-in safeguards, there is also an ambidextrous manual safety, which makes it a solid choice for pack or vehicle storage.
