The name PCR stands for Police Czech Republic, and that origin story matters. This pistol was developed specifically for Czech police officers who needed a compact, carry-ready sidearm that didn't sacrifice the reliability and ergonomics of the full-size CZ 75. The result is one of the most well-rounded metal-framed carry guns on the market today, and it's been that way for decades.
The frame is forged from 7075 T6 aluminum alloy, which keeps the unloaded weight at 27.5 oz while still delivering that premium, all-metal feel in the hand. The cold hammer forged 3.75-inch barrel sits inside the frame on internal slide rails rather than riding on top, a signature CZ design feature that keeps the bore axis notably low. That translates directly to reduced muzzle flip and better shot-to-shot control. The beavertail pushes your hand up high into the grip, and between the rounded contour, rubber panels, and serrated front and back straps, the gun settles into your hand naturally and stays there.
The DA/SA setup with the decocking lever is really the heart of what makes the PCR different from other CZ 75 variants. Drop the hammer with the decocker before you holster, and your first shot is a longer, heavier double-action pull that requires real intention. Follow-up shots switch to crisp single-action. There's no manual safety to swipe off under stress, and no need to re-engage one before reholstering. It's a carry system that a lot of experienced pistol shooters genuinely prefer for its simplicity and inherent passive safety.
Compared to the CZ P-01, the PCR drops the accessory rail entirely, which trims the profile just enough to aid in concealment and gives the gun cleaner lines overall. The snag-free fixed 3-dot sights are low-profile by design, built for a clean draw from concealment rather than target shooting. A loaded chamber indicator on the slide provides both a visual and tactile confirmation of chamber status, and the extended magazine release makes for quicker reloads. This version ships with two 10-round magazines and comes packaged in a plastic case with a cable lock.

The decocking lever safely lowers the hammer without firing the pistol. Once decocked, the gun is in double-action mode, meaning the first trigger pull is longer and heavier, similar to a DA revolver. After that first shot, the action cocks itself and subsequent shots fire in single-action with a lighter, shorter pull. There is no manual safety to disengage before firing.
The two pistols are very close siblings and share the same forged aluminum alloy frame. The main difference is that the PCR does not have an accessory rail under the dust cover, which gives it a slightly slimmer profile and marginally better concealment compared to the P-01. If you don't plan on mounting a weapon light, the PCR is the more carry-focused choice of the two.

The CZ 75 family uses an inside-frame rail system where the slide travels within the frame rather than on top of it, which is the opposite of most semi-auto pistols.
