The Remington Core-Lokt .25-06 Remington 120 grain load brings together a cartridge known for its flat trajectory and moderate recoil with one of hunting's most dependable bullet designs. With a muzzle velocity of 2990 feet per second and energy around 2382 foot-pounds, this ammunition delivers the performance medium-game hunters have relied on for decades.
The Core-Lokt bullet remains unchanged in its fundamentals since 1939 because the design works. Its tapered copper jacket is mechanically locked to a solid lead core, creating predictable controlled expansion that retains weight through bone and muscle. Rather than separating on impact like older bullet designs, the Core-Lokt expands in a controlled mushroom pattern while maintaining structural integrity. This means deeper penetration and more reliable terminal performance in the field.
The .25-06 has earned its reputation as a medium-game cartridge, and the 120-grain Core-Lokt sits right in the sweet spot for this round. Deer and antelope hunting out to practical ranges of 250-300 yards is where this load truly shines. The flat trajectory typical of the .25-06 means you don't need to overthink hold-over in most hunting situations, and the moderate recoil helps with shot placement. Brass casing and Kleanbore primers provide the consistency you need for reliable ignition and reloadability if you choose to reload.
Core-Lokt ammunition delivers genuine, field-proven performance without the premium price tag of newer bullet technologies. The design is older, but that's exactly why it's affordable and why so many experienced hunters stick with it. Twenty rounds per box gives you what you need for a hunt without excess.
The .25-06 Remington with a 120-grain bullet maintains good energy and velocity out to practical hunting ranges of 250-300 yards, especially in open terrain where its flat trajectory shines. Beyond that distance, heavier, higher-velocity loads or a larger caliber might be preferable depending on your specific hunting situation and game size.
Yes, the Remington Core-Lokt .25-06 uses reloadable brass casings and standard Boxer primers, making it suitable for handloading. This allows experienced reloaders to create custom loads tailored to their specific rifles and hunting needs.
This load is purpose-built for deer and antelope hunting, where the 120-grain bullet weight and controlled-expansion design deliver deep penetration and reliable performance. It can be effective on larger medium game with proper shot placement, though many hunters prefer heavier bullets for anything much larger than deer.
The Core-Lokt achieves reliable controlled expansion through mechanical locking and jacket tapering rather than bonding technology. While more modern bonded designs offer some advantages in extreme conditions, the Core-Lokt remains proven and effective for typical hunting distances and medium game, at a lower price point.
