The Melik's name translates to "king" in Turkish, and Derya built it to match that billing. At its core it's a full-size DA/SA semi-automatic chambered in 9mm, with a 4.9-inch barrel riding in a locking block recoil system that manages felt recoil well for a pistol of this size. The slide is forged 4140 steel with a Melonite finish applied in-house at Derya's facility in Turkey. Melonite is a nitriding process, not a coating, meaning the finish won't chip, peel, or add any measurable dimension to the slide. The frame is machined from a solid billet of 7075 aluminum and finished in black anodize, so the whole package is genuinely durable without being heavy.
If you're coming from a striker-fired background, the Melik's trigger system is worth understanding before you buy. The first shot fires in double action with a longer, heavier pull as the hammer travels the full arc. After that, the hammer stays cocked and every subsequent shot is in single action, noticeably lighter and shorter. The slide-mounted decocker doubles as a safety: flip it down to drop the hammer safely and take the gun off fire. Reviewers who have put rounds through the Melik specifically call out how good the trigger feels in both modes, which isn't something you always hear about DA/SA pistols at this price point.
This platform draws obvious comparisons to the Beretta 92, and those comparisons are fair in terms of overall layout, but the Melik isn't a direct clone. Internal components are not interchangeable between the two guns, and Derya machines their own frame from 7075 aluminum rather than using the same alloy Beretta specifies. The grip screws are a different diameter, the slide rail height differs slightly, and the firing pin block design is its own. The practical takeaway is that the Melik borrows the ergonomics and feel of one of the most proven pistol designs in history while being its own manufactured product with its own tolerances and parts. This 10+1 variant ships with a polymer grip panel, keeping it in all-black trim from slide to frame.
The fixed sights and 8.4-inch overall length put this pistol squarely in the range and home use category. It's a big pistol with a big grip, and that's a feature if you have larger hands or simply prefer shooting a gun that fills your hand and soaks up recoil.

That means it won't chip, peel, or alter the slide's dimensions, and it adds meaningful corrosion and wear resistance. It's the same basic process used on many higher-end production pistol slides, and it holds up to regular range use without needing a lot of babying.
The Melik fires in double action on the first shot, with a longer and heavier pull as the hammer cycles fully. Every round after that fires in single action with a lighter, shorter pull. The slide-mounted lever acts as both a decocker and a safety: when you press it down, the hammer drops safely and the trigger is disabled. To put the pistol back into a ready condition, you return the lever to the up position.
This specific variant ships with black polymer grip panels, which is what gives the pistol its clean all-black appearance from frame to grip. Other Melik variants feature Turkish walnut grips, but those are different SKUs with different finishes. The polymer grip on this model is textured on the front and back strap for a solid hold during use.
Derya does offer extended magazines for the Melik platform separately, including 17-round and 33-round options in their DY9 magazine lineup. Whether any given extended magazine is appropriate for your use is something worth confirming with Derya or your dealer, but the platform is designed to accommodate more capacity than this 10-round variant ships with.
It's a solid choice for that purpose. The full-size grip and 4.9-inch barrel make it comfortable to shoot for extended sessions, and the recoil-delayed locking block system keeps muzzle flip manageable in 9mm. The DA/SA system does require building a consistent trigger technique to account for the pull weight change from the first to subsequent shots, but that's true of any pistol in this category and it's a skill well worth developing.
