The name Melik translates to "king" in Turkish, and Derya Arms wasn't being subtle about their ambitions with this one. It's a full-size DA/SA 9mm that draws heavily from the proven Beretta 92 platform, built with a forged 4140 steel slide, a 7075 aluminum frame machined from solid billet, and a 4140 steel barrel that goes through heat treatment, crack inspection, and precision drilling before it ever ships. The slide and barrel both get an in-house Melonite finish applied at Derya's facility in Turkey, which is a real metal treatment, not a coating. It penetrates the surface of the steel, doesn't affect tolerances, and won't flake or chip off over time the way applied coatings can.
The Melik runs a slide-mounted combined safety and decocking lever with ambidextrous controls, which handles a bit differently than what a lot of people are used to on striker-fired guns. In double action, the trigger pull is longer and heavier as the hammer is both cocked and released in one motion. Once the first round fires, the hammer stays back and every follow-up shot is in single action with a noticeably shorter, lighter pull. Dropping the decocker lever lowers the hammer and simultaneously puts the pistol on safe, disabling the trigger. It's a system that rewards some dry-fire practice up front, but once it clicks, it's a very natural way to run a pistol.
People who've shot the Melik consistently comment on two things: how manageable the recoil is and how good the trigger feels for a pistol in this price bracket. The full-size aluminum frame soaks up a fair amount of felt recoil, and that 4.9-inch barrel gives the gun a well-balanced, planted feel in the hand. Fixed front and rear sights keep the setup simple and snag-free. The slide has front and rear serrations for a solid purchase when running the action. Beretta 92 magazines are compatible with the Melik's magazine well, which is worth noting since those mags are widely available and reasonably priced. When you're ready to fire, rotating the lever up takes the gun off safe and leaves it ready to shoot in double action. It's an ambidextrous setup, so it works naturally for both right- and left-handed shooters.
The Melik uses an ACT MAG brand magazine and the magazine well is designed similarly to the Beretta 92, meaning many Beretta 92-pattern magazines will fit. This is a real practical advantage since those magazines are widely available from multiple manufacturers. The standard black model ships with one 17-round magazine included.
Melonite is a ferritic nitrocarburizing process that diffuses carbon and nitrogen into the surface of the steel rather than applying a coating on top of it. This means it doesn't add any measurable thickness to the treated parts, so tolerances stay tight. It's also extremely durable and corrosion-resistant, making it a step up from traditional bluing and arguably more consistent than painted-on finishes like Cerakote for functional parts.
The Melik is a solid platform for learning the DA/SA manual of arms, especially for someone already familiar with handgun basics. The transition from the heavier first double-action pull to the lighter single-action follow-ups is very noticeable and worth practicing in dry-fire before heading to the range. Once you get comfortable with the decocker and the two distinct trigger modes, the pistol shoots smoothly and predictably.
This model, with the MPN ending in "TR", is manufactured at Derya's facility in Turkey. Derya Arms also has operations in the United States, and some variants of their firearms are made domestically. The TR designation specifically identifies this as the Turkish-made version.
