Chambered for .44 Magnum and .44 Special, it wears a 16.5-inch octagon blued steel barrel that trims nearly a pound off the full-size Big Boy, bringing overall length down to a quick-pointing 35 inches at 7.76 pounds.
This version gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to feeding the seven-round tube. The side loading gate lets you top off without ever dropping the rifle from your shoulder, while the traditional removable magazine tube makes unloading at the end of the day safe and simple. The factory-installed large loop lever cycles fast and works fine with gloves on, which matters more than you'd think on a cold morning in a deer stand.
The polished hardened brass receiver is the showpiece here, matched with a brass buttplate, brass barrel band, and nicely figured American walnut in a straight-grip pattern. Up top you get a fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with a reversible white diamond insert and a brass bead front, a setup that's quick to pick up in the woods. If you'd rather run glass, the receiver comes drilled and tapped for a scope base.
Out of a carbine barrel, .44 Magnum picks up a meaningful velocity bump over a revolver, making this a legitimate whitetail and hog gun inside 100 yards and a natural companion to a .44 sixgun. Feed it .44 Special for relaxed afternoons of plinking or cowboy action work. Either way, the smooth action and crisp trigger make it the kind of rifle that empties the magazine faster than you planned.
Yes, it's chambered for both .44 Magnum and .44 Special. Full-house magnums give you the punch for deer and hogs, while .44 Special loads are soft-shooting and easy on the wallet for range days. The rifle cycles both, though as with most tube-fed lever guns it tends to run smoothest with standard-length loads.
The carbine trims the octagon barrel from 20 inches down to 16.5, shaving close to a pound of weight and bringing overall length to a compact 35 inches. Magazine capacity drops from ten rounds to seven, and the carbine comes with a factory large loop lever. Everything else, including the brass receiver, walnut furniture, and side gate, carries over.
You can. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so all you need is Henry's BB-RSM scope base and rings. That said, the adjustable semi-buckhorn rear and brass bead front are a solid setup for the ranges this .44 Mag carbine is built for.
You get two options. The side loading gate below the ejection port lets you top off the seven-round tube while keeping the rifle shouldered, and the traditional removable inner magazine tube lets you unload safely without cycling every round through the action. It's a genuinely handy combination that older side-gate-only designs can't match.
