The HD XR takes everything people love about Trijicon's HD night sights and dials in the front post for shooters who want to stretch things out a little. The thinner front blade (.122 inch wide) opens up your field of view, so you get more light on either side of the post when it sits in the rear notch. That extra visibility makes it easier to pick up your aiming point quickly, identify what you're looking at, and see where your hits land at longer distances. This particular set carries the green tritium front dot wrapped in a photoluminescent yellow ring, paired with a blacked-out U-notch rear holding two green tritium dots.
Trijicon caps the front tritium lamp with a domed sapphire jewel that focuses the glow into an aiming point roughly twice as bright as a standard dot. No, these are standard-height irons and are not tall enough to co-witness through a red dot window. They're designed for iron-sight shooting rather than being viewed through an optic. If you plan to run a red dot and want backup irons, you'll want suppressor-height sights instead.
