The CMMG Dissent BR4 is one of the more interesting takes on the 5.56 carbine you'll come across. Instead of the usual AR layout, CMMG built it around their patented Compact Action, which does away with the traditional buffer and tube by running recoil springs inside the bolt carrier itself. That change opens the door to a Remington 870-compatible Magpul SGA stock, so the whole rifle has a handling feel closer to a classic sporting shotgun than a standard AR, while still keeping familiar controls within reach.
Up front you get a 16.1" 4140 chrome-moly barrel with a 1:7 twist and a salt-bath nitride finish, tipped with CMMG's ZEROED muzzle brake on 1/2×28 threads. The barrel runs a mid-length gas system with a 0.750" adjustable gas block, so you can tune it for whatever load you're feeding it. Both the Dissent upper and the Br4 billet lower are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and wear a Black Armor Cerakote finish that holds up to real use.
The charging handle lives up on the handguard as a reversible, non-reciprocating side charger, which is a nice touch if you've ever wrestled with a traditional rear charging handle under an optic. CMMG wrapped the barrel in a 15" M-LOK free-float handguard with a full-length Picatinny rail up top, giving you plenty of room for optics, lights, and whatever else you want to hang on it. The trigger is the ZEROED single-stage unit CMMG developed alongside RISE Armament, and it breaks cleaner than a standard mil-spec AR trigger.
Chambered in 5.56 NATO and happy to run .223 Rem, the Dissent BR4 feeds from standard AR-pattern magazines, so you're not locked into anything proprietary. It ships with a pair of 10-round Magpul PMAGs from the factory. Between the adjustable gas block, the soft-shooting Compact Action, and that flat-breaking trigger, it's an easygoing rifle to run at the range or out in the field.
