The MDT Traveller is one of those small pieces of gear that quietly earns its spot in your pack. It's a rear squeeze bag built to steady your rifle for that last bit of wobble between a hit and a miss, and it's sized right at 8 x 6 x 1 inches so it tucks into a range bag, a truck console, or a pack pocket without a fight. The Multi-Cam shell is cut from 500D Cordura, which is the same tough, abrasion-resistant material you'll find on serious field gear, so it shrugs off rough handling and drags across gravel and wood.
The name comes from General Robert E. Lee's horse, Traveller, and the bag lives up to the steadfast reputation. It came into the MDT lineup after they acquired Warhorse Development, a shop already known for well-built shooting bags. That heritage shows in the details: Mil-Spec nylon webbing straps, a carabiner loop for clipping onto a pack, and a removable webbing lanyard so you can sling it, clip it to a QD swivel or HK-style clip, and keep your hands free on the walk in.
One of the standout traits is how the Cordura handles moisture. Get caught in the rain or set it down in wet grass and the Traveller dries back to its original state, so it stays light and ready instead of turning into a soggy brick like an old sand sock. A dedicated hand strap gives you a non-slip grip, which makes it easy to reposition the bag on a barricade or squeeze it into shape behind your buttstock.
This particular model ships in Multi-Cam and weighs in around a pound. Between the durable build, the flexible carry options, and its handy size, the Traveller works just as well cushioning a rifle off an obstacle as it does propping up your buttstock on a bench.
Yes, the Traveller ships filled and ready to use. MDT offers this bag with fill options depending on the version, so it's set up to provide a solid rest right out of the package. There's no sand or beads to add yourself.
It's a rear squeeze bag, so its main job is steadying the buttstock of your rifle to take out that last bit of wobble. It works great off a bench, prone, or braced on a barricade or obstacle. The compact 8 x 6 x 1 inch size also makes it handy for smaller positional adjustments and quick-grab gear stabilizing.
The Cordura shell is moisture-resistant and built to handle rough outdoor use. If it gets wet, it dries back to its original state instead of soaking up water and staying heavy. That's a big step up from the old sand-sock approach that absorbed moisture and stayed soggy.
It has a removable webbing lanyard plus a carabiner loop, so you've got a few options. You can clip it to a pack, attach it with a QD swivel or HK-style clip, or sling it directly for hands-free transport. Keep in mind those clips and swivels aren't included, so plan on using hardware you already have.
