The FOXTROT2R from SIG Sauer is a compact weapon mounted light built for anyone who wants serious output without fussing over which battery is in the drawer. It throws a 700 lumen beam with a 20,000 candela peak intensity, which means you get a tight, far reaching hotspot along with enough spill to keep your peripheral vision covered. The FDE finish blends in nicely with tan and coyote colored pistols and holsters, and the aluminum housing keeps the whole unit light on the rail without feeling flimsy.
What sets this light apart from a lot of the competition is SIG's FlexCore setup. Instead of locking you into one proprietary cell, the FOXTROT2R runs on either its included rechargeable 16340 battery or a common CR123A. Charge it up at home through the built in micro-USB port for day to day use, and if you're ever caught without a charger, just drop in a CR123A from the shelf and keep moving. That kind of backup plan matters a lot more on a light that's supposed to be there when you need it.
Activation is handled through paddle switches on both sides of the light, so it doesn't matter which hand is on the grip. You can run it in momentary mode for quick flashes, constant-on for sustained light, or a threshold setting that blends the two, and the light remembers the mode you set it to last. It's the kind of control setup that becomes second nature after a range session or two.
Mounting is straightforward thanks to the two included rail interface inserts, one cut for standard M1913 Picatinny rails and another sized for pistols with non-standard rail profiles. Each insert slides into four positions, so you can dial in the exact fit for your specific handgun instead of settling for a sloppy connection. Combined with an IPX7 water resistance rating, this is a light that's meant to be mounted up and left alone until you actually need it.
The FOXTROT2R ships with a rechargeable 16340 Li-Ion battery that charges through the built in micro-USB port. If you don't have time to charge it, you can swap in a standard CR123A battery instead, so you're not stuck without a power source.
It comes with two rail interface inserts, one for M1913 Picatinny rails and one for handguns with non-standard rail profiles. Each insert slides into four positions, letting you fine tune the fit for a secure mount on most modern pistols.
On a full charge you can expect up to about 1.5 hours of continuous runtime at the full 700 lumen output. Since it also runs on a CR123A, you can extend usable time in the field by keeping a spare battery on hand.
The light uses ambidextrous paddle switches so either hand can activate it, and it offers momentary, constant-on, and threshold modes. You choose which mode fits your use, and the light holds that setting until you change it again.
