Marble Arms has been building folding rear sights for close to a hundred years, and the No. 69WEH carries on that reputation. This is the extra-high flat-top model, giving you an overall sight height of roughly .520" up to .640" and an elevation range from about .538" to .657", which makes it the tall option when your barrel diameter or front sight height calls for a bit more lift. It fits standard 3/8" dovetail rear sight cuts found on a wide range of lever guns and bolt actions from Winchester, Marlin, Remington, Savage and others.
The big draw here is the windage adjustment. Instead of drifting the whole sight in its dovetail with a punch, the "W" models let you fine-tune left and right with a small screwdriver, so you can zero cleanly without marring the base. Elevation is handled through a stepped notch piece, and that notch piece is reversible, giving you your choice of a U-shaped or V-shaped sight picture depending on what your eyes prefer. A hand-painted enamel diamond sits below the notch to draw your focus right to center for quick, instinctive alignment.
The flat-top design is the whole point of a folding leaf. A strong spring locks the sight firmly in the up or down position, and when you fold it flat against the barrel it clears the way for a tang peep sight or a scope without getting in the line of sight. That flexibility is why a lot of folks running a classic lever gun with a receiver or tang sight still keep one of these on the barrel as a backup.
Machined from solid steel with a black coated finish, this sight is built to hold zero and take a beating in the field. Like most quality dovetail sights, it may need a little fitting to seat snug in your particular barrel cut, and getting the right height matters, so measure your barrel and front sight before ordering to make sure the WEH height is the correct choice over the shorter 69W or 69WH versions.
The main difference is height. The 69WEH is the extra-high version, adjusting for elevation from roughly .538" to .657" with an overall sight height around .520" to .640". If your barrel diameter or front sight setup needs more lift than the standard 69W or 69WH can give, the WEH is the one to reach for.
The "W" in the model name means it is windage adjustable by screw. That lets you correct left and right with a small screwdriver rather than drifting the whole sight in the dovetail with a punch. It is a cleaner way to zero and won't chew up the base of the sight.

Yes, that is the whole idea behind the flat-top folding design. The leaf folds down flat against the barrel and locks in place, clearing the sight line for a tang peep sight or a scope. Flip it back up when you want to use the open sight instead.
