Want to run a red dot on your Iver Johnson 1911 but don't want to send the slide off for milling? This EGW sight mount is the simple answer. It replaces the factory rear sight by slipping into the existing dovetail, giving you a solid platform for a Trijicon RMR or SRO. No cutting, no machining, no permanent changes to your pistol. If you ever want to go back to irons, you just pull the mount and reinstall your rear sight.
This one is built for 1911s with a GI-style rear sight cut, which covers a long list of Iver Johnson models including the 1911A1, Falcon 45, Thrasher, and the various Chrome and finish variants. The mount measures 1.780 inches long and 1.1 inches wide, machined from 7075 aluminum and finished in a matte black hardcoat anodize that holds up to recoil and daily carry wear. Worth noting it does not fit optics-ready models or the smaller RMRcc, and it won't work on Rock Island 1911s.
The RMR footprint on this mount accepts a good range of popular red dots beyond just the Trijicon RMR and SRO. You can also run Holosun 407C, 507C, 508T, and several Swampfox options like the Liberty and Justice that share the same bolt pattern. That flexibility means you're not locked into one optic if you decide to switch later.
Setup is straightforward for most folks with basic tools. Remove the rear sight, seat the mount in the dovetail, tighten the set screw, then mount your red dot using the included screws with a dab of blue Loctite torqued to about 15 in/lbs. The mounting screws take a 5/64 inch allen wrench. Some owners report a touch of light filing may be needed to get a snug dovetail fit, which is common with precision parts like this and nothing to worry about. Once it's on, you've got a stable, repeatable optic platform that keeps the classic lines of your 1911 intact.
No. The mount drops into your existing rear sight dovetail after you remove the factory rear sight, so there's no cutting or permanent alteration to the slide. You can take the mount off and reinstall your original rear sight whenever you want.
It uses the Trijicon RMR footprint, so it accepts the Trijicon RMR and SRO along with Holosun models like the 407C, 507C, and 508T, plus several Swampfox optics that share that bolt pattern. Keep in mind the smaller Trijicon RMRcc will not fit this mount.
