If you've been wanting to run a red dot on your Springfield XD but didn't want to send the slide off for milling, this EGW mount is one of the cleanest ways to get there. It replaces your factory rear sight and seats in the existing dovetail, giving you a solid platform for a Vortex Viper or Venom. No permanent changes to the slide, and you can go back to irons anytime you want.
EGW builds this one from 7075 aluminum, the same aircraft-grade alloy you'll find on a lot of serious rifle and pistol hardware. It's finished in a Type III matte black hardcoat anodize, which is about as tough as anodizing gets and does a good job shrugging off holster wear, scuffs, and the elements. The mount measures roughly 1.811 inches long and .99 inches wide, keeping the optic low and close to the bore for a quick, natural sight picture.
Installation is refreshingly simple. Drive out the factory rear sight, slide the EGW mount into the dovetail, and set your optic. The dovetail features a progressive taper that makes it easier to seat and lock in place. EGW recommends a drop of blue Loctite on the mounting screws and torquing them to 15 in/lbs. A rear sight pusher tool makes the job a lot smoother if you've got one on the bench.
This mount covers a wide range of XD pistols, including the XD, XD-M, XD Sub-Compact, XD Mod 2, XDS, and XD-E that are not already optics ready. Keep in mind it's designed for models that still wear a factory rear sight, so it won't work on the XD(M) 5.25 inch Competition Series or any optic ready XD that already comes cut for a dot. Along with the Vortex Viper and Venom, the footprint also accommodates the Burris FastFire and Docter pattern red dots, so you've got some flexibility in optic choice.

The footprint is machined for the Vortex Viper and Vortex Venom, and it also accepts Burris FastFire and Docter pattern optics. EGW includes two sets of screws so you can match the hardware to whichever of those sights you're running.
You'll need a 5/64 inch Allen wrench for the included screws and some blue Loctite to keep them secure. A rear sight pusher tool makes removing the factory sight and seating the mount much easier. EGW recommends torquing the mounting screws to 15 in/lbs.
No. The mount uses your pistol's existing rear sight dovetail, so there's no milling or cutting involved. If you ever want to go back to iron sights, you can pull the mount and reinstall a rear sight.
