The L.E. Wilson Case Gage for 6mm BR Norma (Long 1.560") is one of those simple bench tools that earns its spot the first time you use it. It's a solid, one-piece steel cylinder machined to SAAMI minimum chamber dimensions, so dropping in a case gives you a fast, repeatable read on where your brass sits for both overall length and headspace. No moving parts, nothing to adjust, nothing to wear out. You drop the case in, check how it sits against the gage surfaces, and you have your answer.
Wilson has been building these gages since 1935, and the design hasn't changed much because it didn't need to. The whole point is to show you exactly how far you're pushing the shoulder back when you size, which is the part most reloaders either overlook or guess at. Measure a case in its as-fired condition, size it, then drop it back in and compare. That tells you your actual shoulder bump so you can dial your full-length sizer in to the sweet spot, usually around .001" to .004" of setback depending on how you run your rifle.
This is the Long 1.560" version, built for the 6mm BR Norma case with its standard 1.560" case length. Make sure that matches what you're loading, since Wilson also offers a Short 1.520" gage for other 6 BR variations. Getting the right one matters because the whole value here is in precise, cartridge-specific measurement.
You can read the gage a few different ways. A straightedge across the top tells you quickly whether a case is within trim-to-length spec, and for headspace you can use a depth micrometer or calipers to measure how the case head sits relative to the gaging surfaces. If you run the L.E. Wilson Case Gage Depth Micrometer (sold separately), it slips right over the top of this gage and gives you a clean, caliper-free shoulder bump reading every time. Either way, you end up with brass that chambers smooth, stays fire-formed longer, and shoots more consistently.
The number refers to the case length the gage is set up for. This CG-6BRL is the Long version built for the standard 6mm BR Norma 1.560" case, while the Short gage is cut for the 1.520" variation. Check which length your brass runs before ordering so you get an accurate measurement.
