Description

The Area 419 ZERO Die Ring Multi-Pack in 1.25" fixes a problem most reloaders never knew was costing them consistency: the humble lock ring. Area 419 found that during development of the ZERO press, the lock ring was one of the bigger culprits behind inconsistency, since most rings on the market rely on a set screw or a split-clamp design that can shift the die off square under load. These rings take a different approach, using a large, flat bottom face and generous thread engagement to pull your die straight and keep it there.

What Sets the ZERO 1.25" Die Rings Apart

These rings feature roughly .350 inches of thread engagement, which runs about 15 to 25 percent more than common lock rings and works out to close to a full extra thread of bite. That added engagement, paired with the larger diameter and more surface contact, helps square the die to the press head rather than letting the die wander as it tightens. The threads and the bottom face are machined in a single operation, so the surfaces meeting your press are true and flat.

Internal Wrench Design for Tight Turret Heads

Anyone who has fought to get a wrench around a traditional die ring on a multi-die head will appreciate this one. Instead of an external flat or knurl, the ZERO ring uses internal wrench engagement, so the included wrench drops in from the top and tightens without you having to wedge tools between neighboring dies. Reloaders consistently call out how handy this is on turret setups where space is at a premium.

The 1.25" pack includes four rings threaded 1-1/4×12 plus the matching wrench, finished in durable black nitride with a hardcoat-anodized aluminum wrench. These are a jam-nut style ring, meaning they shine in applications where the die stays set, like turret heads and dedicated single-stage setups. Keep in mind the wider body may not clear every progressive tool head, so it's worth checking your spacing before mounting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size dies do the ZERO 1.25" rings fit?

These rings are threaded 1-1/4 x 12, so they fit large-diameter dies that use the 1.25" thread standard. If your dies are the more common 7/8 x 14 size, you'll want the 7/8" version instead. Check your die threads before ordering to make sure you get the right pack.

How are the ZERO die rings different from standard lock rings?

Instead of a set screw or split-clamp that can nudge the die off center, these use a large flat face and about .350 inches of thread engagement to pull the die square to the press. The threads and bottom face are cut in one machining operation for a true, flat surface. They also tighten with an internal wrench that drops in from the top, which is a big help on crowded turret heads.

Do these rings lock onto the die threads like a set-screw ring?

No, these are a jam-nut style ring, meaning they don't bite into the die threads to hold a saved setting. They're at their best in setups where the die stays put, like turret heads and dedicated single-stage applications. If you frequently swap a die in and out, you'll need to reset the ring each time.

Will the ZERO 1.25" die rings work on a progressive press?

They can, but the larger diameter body may not clear the tool heads on some progressive presses where dies sit close together. On single-stage and turret presses they work great and the oversized face is an asset. It's smart to confirm your die spacing before mounting.
