When you want to know whether it's you or the rifle throwing shots, a solid front rest answers the question fast. The Caldwell Rock Deluxe gives you a stout, heavy platform that plants itself on the bench and stays put through recoil, so you can chase real accuracy from your rifle and your loads instead of fighting your own wobble.
The backbone here is a cast base spread across a wide footprint, with a steel elevation post that runs up top through a big star knob. Give it a flick and you glide from roughly 4.5 to 7.25 inches of height, then lock it down and it sits like it's bolted to the table. Three independent leveling feet with pointed thumb screws let you square things up on uneven benches, and those points dig into wood to fight sliding under recoil. There's a built-in level to help you get it dialed, plus a carry handle so hauling it to the line is a one-hand job.
Up front you get a forend cradle with a forend stop, which is the trick to real repeatability. Set your rifle against the stop and it lands in the same spot shot after shot. The rest ships with a filled Medium Varmint front bag, and the cradle accepts Caldwell's Deluxe Universal front bags, so if you run a wide bench-rest forend or a skinny sporter, you can swap in a bag that matches your stock.
Worth knowing before you set up: this is a front rest with no windage dial, so most folks steer left and right by nudging a rear bag. Run it with a good rear bag and you've got a complete two-point setup for load development, sighting in, or just tightening groups on a range day. It works great for rifles, and plenty of owners use it for big-bore handguns and crossbows too.
No, it's built as a front rest without a windage dial. Most shooters handle left and right corrections by nudging their rear bag, which many prefer for its feel and precision. Running the Rock Deluxe up front with a good rear bag gives you full control over your point of aim.
You'll want one for the best results. This is a front rest, so it supports the forend while a rear bag cradles the buttstock, giving you a stable two-point setup. Caldwell offers several rear bags in different heights to match your stock, and any quality rear bag will do the trick.
Yes. The forend cradle accepts all Caldwell Deluxe Universal front rest bags, so you can move from the included Medium Varmint bag to a narrow sporter or wide bench-rest bag depending on your forend. That flexibility lets you match the rest to whatever rifle you're shooting that day.
It's a heavy rest with a wide footprint and three pointed leveling feet that bite into a wood bench to resist sliding. On a hard, slick surface it can move under heavy recoil, so a wood top or a bit of grip underneath helps. For sighting in and load work, it holds firm once you level it and lock the elevation.
