Description
The DISSENT is CMMG's answer to the whole "where does the buffer go" headache that comes with building a compact 9mm AR. Instead of the usual buffer tube and recoil spring hanging off the back of the lower, this upper packs the entire action and recoil assembly right into the receiver using CMMG's patent-pending Compact Action with Radial Delayed Blowback. The result is a build that's noticeably shorter and less bulky than a traditional AR pistol, which matters when you're chasing a tight, maneuverable package.
What Makes the DISSENT 9mm Upper Different
The 10.5" 4140 chrome-moly barrel wears a 1:10 twist and a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle capped with CMMG's Zeroed Linear Compensator, so you get real velocity out of the longer tube while keeping muzzle blast pushed forward. A 9.6" M-LOK handguard gives you slim, sleek real estate for lights, grips, and whatever else you like to hang, and the 7075-T6 aluminum receiver keeps things tough without adding weight.
Running the DISSENT Side Charger
Bolt operation happens through a forward non-reciprocating side charging handle, which lets you rack the action without pulling your support hand off the gun or coming off target. It ships on the left side but can be swapped over to the right if that suits your setup better. It's a genuinely fast, natural way to manipulate the bolt once you've run it a bit.
Building Out Your DISSENT 9mm
This is a complete upper group with the bolt carrier group installed, and it drops onto CMMG Mk4 and Mk17 lowers as well as standard mil-spec AR-15 lowers. On a mil-spec lower you'll run CMMG's 9 AR conversion magazines, which share the profile of a 5.56 mag for a familiar manual of arms, while CMMG's Glock-mag lowers open up the Glock magazine route. Since the recoil system lives up top, you swap the buffer tube for the included 1913 Picatinny rail end plate, which also gives you a mounting point for a brace, stock, or sling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What lowers will the DISSENT 9mm upper work with?
It fits CMMG Mk4 and Mk17 lowers as well as standard mil-spec AR-15 lowers. On a mil-spec AR-15 lower you'll use CMMG's 9 AR conversion magazines to feed it. Because the recoil system lives inside the upper, you don't need a buffer tube on the lower.
Does the DISSENT 9mm take Glock magazines?
This upper itself doesn't determine the magazine, the lower does. Pair it with a CMMG MkGs or Mk17 lower and you're running Glock-pattern mags, while a mil-spec lower uses CMMG's 9 AR conversion magazines. Some builders also run a Glock magwell adapter on a standard lower to get there.
Why is there no buffer tube on the DISSENT?
That's the whole point of the Compact Action. CMMG relocated the entire action and recoil assembly into the upper receiver, so there's no buffer or recoil spring in the lower. In its place you install the included 1913 Picatinny rail end plate, which also serves as your attachment point for a brace, stock, or sling.
Can I move the charging handle to the other side?
Yes. The forward non-reciprocating side charger ships on the left side but can be switched to the right to match your preference. It stays put during firing since it's non-reciprocating, and it lets you run the bolt without breaking your grip or coming off target.
