Description

The Mark IV 22/45 is already one of the better-built rimfire pistols on the market, and Ruger took that foundation and gave it a reason to be remembered. This 250th Anniversary edition is part of a limited-production series Ruger launched in 2026 to commemorate America's semiquincentennial, with each firearm in the series bearing a "Made in the 250th Year of American Liberty" engraving. On this pistol, that marking sits on the receiver above the ejection port. The 22/45 designation matters here too: the grip angle mirrors a 1911, which makes this feel familiar to anyone who spends time with a full-size pistol.

Under the hood, the 4.4" bull barrel is cold hammer-forged, which gives you tighter, more consistent rifling than you'd get from a button-rifled barrel. The 1:16" right-hand twist and the internal cylindrical bolt design work together to keep sight-to-barrel alignment locked in shot after shot. It's one of the reasons these pistols shoot so well out of the box. The 1/2"x28 threaded muzzle (thread protector included) opens the door for popular .22 suppressors and muzzle devices, and the factory-installed optics mount accepts RMR, DPP, and RMSc footprint red dots directly, no adapter plate needed.

What Makes the Mark IV 22/45 250th Worth Grabbing

Cleanup has always been the one headache with the older Mark series pistols. Ruger fixed that completely with the Mark IV's one-button takedown: press the recessed button at the rear of the frame, and the barreled receiver tilts up and lifts clear of the polymer grip frame without a single tool. The bolt slides right out for a proper chamber-to-muzzle cleaning pass. Day-to-day range use becomes a lot less of a chore. The ambidextrous manual safety can also be converted to left-side only using the included washer, which is a small touch that a lot of left-handed shooters genuinely appreciate. Two 10-round magazines come in the box.

Collector Appeal Meets Everyday Performance

Ruger's 1976 Bicentennial commemorative series is now firmly in collector territory. The 250th Anniversary series follows the same playbook, limited production, meaningful markings, and full functional spec. This isn't a safe queen dressed up to look useful; it's a properly configured pistol that happens to carry a historic marking. Whether you're buying it to shoot at the range, to suppress, to mount a red dot, or to set aside as a piece of 2026 Americana, this Mark IV 22/45 delivers on all fronts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What optics fit the factory mount on the Mark IV 22/45 250th Anniversary?

The receiver comes with a factory-installed optics mount designed for RMR, DPP, and RMSc footprint red dots, so you can drop most popular micro red dots on directly without an adapter. Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and Shield RMSc pattern optics are all compatible. Just check your specific optic against the footprint before ordering, as some brands use their own proprietary patterns.

Is the Mark IV 22/45 250th Anniversary hard to clean?

Not at all, and that's one of the biggest improvements over earlier Mark series pistols. The Mark IV uses a one-button takedown: press the button at the back of the frame and the barrel and receiver assembly lifts right off the grip frame without any tools. The bolt then slides out for a clean chamber-to-muzzle pass. It's a night-and-day difference compared to the Mark II and III disassembly process.

Can I run a suppressor on this pistol?

Yes. The 4.4" bull barrel is threaded in 1/2"x28, which is the standard thread pitch for .22 LR suppressors, and it ships with a thread protector already installed. The bull barrel profile also pairs well with a can since the extra weight up front helps with felt recoil and balance when shooting suppressed. Most standard 1/2×28 .22 suppressors will thread right on without any adapter needed.

What makes the 250th Anniversary edition different from a standard Mark IV 22/45?

Beyond the "Made in the 250th Year of American Liberty" engraving on the receiver, this model is specifically configured with a threaded stainless bull barrel, factory optic mount, and adjustable rear sight, features that aren't standard across the entire Mark IV lineup. It's also part of a limited-production run that Ruger has confirmed will not continue after 2026, which gives it collectible value on top of its practical spec.

How accurate is the Mark IV 22/45 with a bull barrel?

The cold hammer-forged bull barrel and the Mark IV's internal cylindrical bolt design work together to maintain consistent sight-to-barrel alignment, which gives it an accuracy edge over traditional moving-slide rimfire designs. The heavier bull profile also reduces barrel harmonics, which tightens groups at distance. It's a platform that target and competition shooters have gravitated toward for years for exactly these reasons.

Is this a good pistol for someone who also shoots 1911s?

The 22/45 designation refers specifically to the grip angle and feel, which is modeled after the 1911. The checkered synthetic grip panels and the angle of the frame translate directly for anyone used to running a Government or Commander-size 1911. It's a popular choice as a low-cost practice tool that reinforces muscle memory without burning through expensive centerfire ammo.
