The A300 Ultima Patrol is Beretta's answer to a question a lot of people have been asking: what does a purpose-built American-made defensive shotgun from Beretta look like at a realistic price point? The result is a gas-operated, semi-automatic 12 gauge built in Gallatin, Tennessee, on the same proven A300 receiver platform that has spent years in the field as a sporting gun. The 19.1-inch chrome-lined barrel keeps the overall length to a manageable 38 inches, chambers both 2 3/4" and 3" shells, and threads for Beretta Mobilchoke tubes — with an Improved Cylinder choke installed from the factory, which is exactly what you want for defensive buckshot at realistic distances. The gas system uses a compensating exhaust valve and self-cleaning piston, meaning it cycles a wide range of loads without fuss and keeps felt recoil noticeably softer than a comparable pump.
Beretta didn't just slap some M-Lok slots on a hunting gun and call it tactical. The loading port is enlarged and beveled so you're not fighting the lifter on fast shell-by-shell reloads. The bolt release is oversized and easy to find under stress, and the cross-bolt safety is both enlarged and reversible for left- or right-handed operation. The 13-inch length of pull on the synthetic stock is shorter than most hunting configs, which makes a real difference when maneuvering through a structure or working around body armor. Two stock spacers (1/2" and 1") are included to bump the LOP out if needed. The forend is slim with aggressive directional texturing that locks your support hand in place in any conditions, and M-Lok slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock make mounting a weapon light straightforward.
The receiver comes with a 7-slot Picatinny rail installed from the factory for optics or a red dot, and the gun is also compatible with Beretta 1301 Tactical aftermarket rail and optic mount accessories — which expands your options considerably. The custom barrel clamp secures the extended magazine tube and adds its own M-Lok slots and QD sling sockets on both sides, so you can mount a sling without having to source an aftermarket clamp. There's also a QD socket on the underside of the buttstock for a rear sling attachment point. At just over 7 pounds, this thing carries well for its category. Pattern testing with quality buckshot loads consistently shows tight groups at typical indoor defensive ranges, and the ghost ring rear paired with the red fiber-optic front sight gives you a fast, usable sight picture for both buckshot and slug work.
The black J32CT11LE model ships with an Improved Cylinder choke installed, which is a solid all-around choice for defensive buckshot at typical engagement distances. The barrel is threaded for Beretta's Mobilchoke system, so there's a wide range of aftermarket tubes available if you want to change constriction for slugs or other applications.
The A300 uses a gas-operated system with a compensating exhaust valve that bleeds off excess pressure from hotter loads to prevent overcycling, while still generating enough force to reliably feed lighter shells. In real-world testing, the gun has cycled everything from budget birdshot to full-power buckshot and slugs without issue. It's a self-cleaning piston design, which helps it stay running even when maintenance gets put off longer than it should.
It's genuinely well-suited for both. The 19.1-inch barrel and 38-inch overall length are compact enough to work in a home environment, and the shortened 13-inch length of pull makes it easier to handle in tight spaces compared to most hunting-stock configurations. The 7+1 capacity, fast-cycling gas action, beveled loading port, and ghost ring sights all point to a platform that was designed with fast, accurate defensive use in mind.
The 1301 Tactical uses Beretta's faster BLINK rotating-bolt gas system, is made in Italy, and comes at a significantly higher price point. The A300 Ultima Patrol uses an older falling-block bolt design, is made in the USA, and sits at a more accessible price. For most users the A300's cycling speed is more than sufficient — you'd have to be a very skilled competition shooter to outrun it. The 1301 also has more aftermarket support, but the A300 Ultima Patrol is compatible with many 1301 Tactical rail and optic accessories, which helps close that gap.
Yes. The gun ships with a 13-inch LOP out of the box, which is intentionally shorter for use with body armor or in close-quarters scenarios. Two included spacers (1/2" and 1") let you extend the LOP up to 14.5 inches to better fit taller users or those who prefer a longer pull for the range.
