The MDT Field Stock in Flat Dark Earth is one of the easiest upgrades you can make to a Savage short action rifle. It keeps the traditional stock shape that hunters know and love, but underneath that comfortable polymer shell sits a rigid 6061 aluminum core with V-block bedding. That means your action gets a solid, repeatable connection while the barrel free floats, which is where a lot of the accuracy gains come from. Best part is the install: drop your barreled action in and snug down two screws. No bedding compound, no sending it off to a gunsmith.
The V-block cradles the action in a machined, tapered channel so it seats the same way every time you tighten it down. Pair that with a fully free-floated barrel that clears up to a 1.250 inch diameter, and you get shot-to-shot consistency that holds up whether the temperature swings or humidity creeps in. Folks running this stock report groups right in line with pricier chassis setups, which is impressive for something this straightforward.
Getting behind the scope with the same head position every time is what makes hits repeatable, and the Field Stock gives you the tools for it. The cheek riser adjusts tool-free with about 1.37 inches of height range, and length of pull is set with the included spacer system so you can tune it to your build and layers. Yes, the Field Stock converts your rifle to use AICS pattern short action magazines, which feed reliably and are widely available. Magazines are not included, so you'll want to pick up at least one to go with it. AICS mags come in various capacities depending on your caliber and how much you want to carry.
