Every AR gas system lives or dies by the little parts most people never see, and the gas tube is right at the top of that list. This is LBE Unlimited's pistol-length version, finished in a black Melonite coating that adds a layer of heat and corrosion resistance over a bare tube. If you're putting together a short-barreled AR pistol setup, this is the piece that routes gas back from the block to the bolt carrier and keeps the whole thing running.
LBE builds their gas tubes from seamless steel tubing, which matters more than it sounds. A smooth, uniform bore means consistent gas flow with no weld seams or rough spots to interrupt the cycle. The Melonite finish is a nitride treatment that penetrates the surface of the steel rather than just sitting on top, so it holds up to the heat and fouling that a gas tube deals with shot after shot. The pistol-length size runs roughly 6.75 inches, which is the standard measurement for AR pistol and PDW-style gas systems.
A gas tube on its own does you no good without the pin that locks it into the gas block, so LBE includes the gas tube roll pin right in the package. Drop it in, line up the pin holes, and drive the roll pin home. It's a straightforward job for anyone comfortable working on their own upper, whether you're finishing a fresh build or swapping out a tube that's seen better days.
LBE Unlimited makes their components here in the United States and runs them through their own quality control, from bolt carrier groups and barrels down to small parts like this. For builders who want a dependable gas tube that fits standard low-profile and fixed gas blocks without any fuss, this one gets the job done.
Pistol-length gas systems are typically found on short barrels, generally in the sub-10-inch range depending on the build. Your barrel's gas port position determines the correct gas system length, so match the tube to a barrel that's set up for pistol-length spacing. If your gas block sits at the pistol-length location, this tube is the right pick.
Yes, LBE includes the gas tube roll pin in the package. That's the small pin that secures the tube to your gas block, and it saves you a trip to source one separately. You'll just need basic tools and a punch to drive it in during installation.
Melonite is a nitride surface treatment that hardens the steel and boosts its resistance to heat and corrosion. Since a gas tube deals with hot gas and carbon fouling constantly, that added durability helps it hold up over a lot of rounds. It also gives the tube a clean black appearance instead of bare stainless.
It's built to standard dimensions, so it lines up with common low-profile and fixed gas blocks used on AR-15 builds. As long as your gas block is set up for a pistol-length system, the tube will seat and pin correctly. Always confirm your gas port and block placement before ordering.
