Description

The factory Savage stock does the job, but it flexes, it's slick when wet, and it does your groups no favors. This Hogue Pillar Bed stock fixes all three. It's built for Savage 110, 111, 114, and 116 long actions running a top-loading internal box magazine and a standard contour barrel, and it turns a decent hunting rifle into something that holds zero and feels a whole lot better in the hands.

What the Pillar Bedding Actually Does for Your Savage

Inside the stock is a rigid bedding block with crush-proof aluminum pillars set at the action screw locations. Those pillars give your action screws something solid to torque against, so the action doesn't shift or settle between range trips the way it can in a bare polymer or wood stock. The barrel channel is free floated, meaning the barrel doesn't touch the stock once everything is installed correctly. Less contact and zero action movement add up to more repeatable groups downrange. Hogue recommends torquing the action screws to roughly 55 to 65 inch-pounds for best results.

The OverMolded Grip That Makes This Hogue Stock Feel Right

Hogue's signature move is the OverMolded rubber skin, the same permanently bonded material found on their handgun grips. It's got a cobblestone texture on the grip and forend that stays grippy with cold, wet, or gloved hands, and it's quiet against brush and gear. It also takes the sting out of recoil a bit, which your shoulder will appreciate after a long day of sighting in.

Fitment Notes Before You Order

This one is cut for the top-loading blind magazine setup, so it will not work with detachable box magazines or hinged floor plate models. If your rifle has a heavy or varmint contour barrel, you'll want the heavy barrel version instead. Most people find it a straightforward drop-in with no gunsmithing, though some rifles may need a touch of hand-fitting due to normal manufacturing variance from gun to gun. It ships with swivel studs and a recoil pad already installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this Hogue stock fit my Savage with a detachable magazine or floor plate?

No, this version is cut specifically for the top-loading internal box magazine, also called a blind mag setup. It will not accept a detachable box magazine or work with a hinged floor plate. If your rifle has a trigger guard only and loads from the top, you're in the right place.

Does the Hogue pillar bed stock free float the barrel?

Yes, the barrel channel is designed to free float a standard contour barrel, so the barrel doesn't touch the stock when installed properly. If you run a heavy or varmint contour barrel, you'll want the heavy barrel version of this stock instead, since the wider channel is cut for those profiles.

Is any gunsmithing required to install it?

For most rifles it's a straightforward drop-in swap with no gunsmithing needed. Because of normal manufacturing variance from rifle to rifle, some owners find a little light hand-fitting helps everything seat perfectly, often around the magazine box area. Torque the action screws to about 55 to 65 inch-pounds when you button it up.

What makes the pillar bedding worth it over the factory stock?

The aluminum pillars give your action screws a solid, non-compressing surface to clamp against, so the action stays put shot after shot instead of shifting like it can in a flexy factory stock. Combined with the free-floated barrel channel, that consistency usually translates to tighter, more repeatable groups. The OverMolded rubber grip is a nice bonus for wet and cold weather handling.
