There is something refreshing about a rifle that does one thing and does it well. The Scout TD V3 is CVA's third generation take-down single shot, and this version wears a 20 inch fluted stainless steel barrel chambered in 6mm ARC. That cartridge choice is a smart one for a break-action hunting rifle. The 6mm ARC sends high BC .243 caliber bullets downrange with mild recoil and enough energy for deer, hogs, and predators well past typical woods distances, so you get real reach without getting beat up at the bench.
The TD in the name stands for take-down, and that is the feature that sets this rifle apart from most single shots on the rack. The barrel separates from the stock quickly, so the whole rifle stows in a backpack, a short case, or behind the seat without fuss. At roughly 6.5 pounds it carries easily all day, and the stainless barrel paired with the black synthetic stock shrugs off rain, snow, and rough treatment better than blued steel and walnut ever will. The stock also includes an adjustable comb and length of pull spacers, so you can fit it to a full-grown hunter or shorten it up for a newer shooter, and a CrushZone recoil pad takes the sting out of what little kick the 6mm ARC produces.
CVA threads the muzzle 5/8×24 and ships the rifle with an Omni muzzle brake installed, so you can run the brake, spin on a can, or cap it with a protector depending on the day. Up top, a 0 MOA DuraSight Picatinny rail is already mounted on the receiver, meaning your scope goes on with a set of rings and nothing else. Add in ambidextrous ergonomics and a reversible hammer spur, and lefties are just as at home behind this rifle as righties. For a walk-in hunter, a backpacker, or anyone who appreciates the discipline of one well-placed shot, this Scout is a hard combination to beat.
Yes. The 20 inch stainless barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pitch for most 6mm and .30 caliber suppressors. It ships with an Omni muzzle brake installed, so you can swap that off and thread your can on directly.
The 6mm ARC is well suited for whitetail deer, hogs, antelope, and predators like coyotes. It pushes high ballistic coefficient bullets in the 90 to 108 grain range with mild recoil, and factory hunting loads from Hornady and others carry plenty of energy for medium game at practical hunting distances.
The barrel assembly separates from the stock and receiver without tools, letting the rifle pack down into a backpack or compact case. It reassembles quickly in the field, which makes it a favorite for hikers, fly-in hunts, and anyone short on storage space.
It does not have iron sights or an included optic. Instead, CVA mounts a 0 MOA DuraSight Picatinny rail on the receiver at the factory, so all you need is a set of rings and your scope of choice to get it range ready.
