Description

Underwood loads this .380 ACP with a hard cast 100-grain flat nose bullet and their polymer-based Black Cherry coating. Unlike hollow points, flat nose hard cast bullets maintain their shape and nose-forward position during penetration, making them effective at driving through barriers without expanding. The Black Cherry coating is built on the improvements from their previous Hi-Tek technology and resists gas cutting better while keeping your barrel cleaner by virtually eliminating lead fouling.

The Black Cherry Coating Advantage

The polymer compound in the Black Cherry coating handles higher thermal stress than most other coatings available. It protects against gas cutting and prevents direct lead-to-bore contact, which means less cleaning and less airborne lead exposure compared to uncoated hard cast rounds. The coating resists wear and abrasion better over extended use, maintaining consistent velocities shot after shot.

Built for Penetration and Low-Light Situations

Underwood designed this .380 ACP load specifically for situations where you need deep, reliable penetration. The 975 fps muzzle velocity combined with the hard cast construction delivers 211 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. All Underwood rounds use flash-suppressed powder, which keeps your vision from being compromised if you need to use your pistol in low-light conditions. The ammunition is field-tested using real firearms that people actually own and shoot from, under conditions you'd expect to encounter.

Standard Reloadable Construction

Each box delivers 20 rounds loaded in new production, non-corrosive brass with nickel plating. The boxer primer and reloadable cases mean you can reload these to extend your supply if you work up loads. The nickel plating improves feeding reliability and resists corrosion better than standard brass during storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Underwood .380 ACP load suitable for self-defense in compact carry pistols?

Yes. The hard cast flat nose bullet is designed for reliable penetration and consistent performance through barriers. However, flat nose hard cast rounds don't expand like hollow points do. Some people prefer hollow points for self-defense due to controlled expansion, while others choose hard cast for deep, penetrating performance. Your specific firearm's functioning is the main concern—make sure it reliably chambers and cycles your chosen ammunition.

What makes the Black Cherry coating different from other hard cast coatings?

The Black Cherry coating is a polymer-based compound with higher thermal stability than many competing coatings. It prevents lead fouling by stopping direct lead-to-bore contact, reduces visible airborne lead, keeps your barrel cleaner, and resists gas cutting and abrasion better during extended shooting. This means less maintenance and more consistent velocities throughout your magazine.

Can I reload these cases?

Yes, each round comes in a boxer-primed, nickel-plated brass case that is reloadable. The nickel plating resists corrosion during storage and makes sizing easier during the reloading process. If you reload, you can work up appropriate loads for your specific pistol and preferences.

Will this ammunition cycle properly in a stock .380 ACP pistol?

Most modern .380 ACP pistols will cycle this ammunition reliably. At 975 fps, it's standard pressure and designed for normal functioning. However, some ultra-compact or blowback-operated .380s may have specific ammunition preferences. If your pistol has chronic feed issues with any brand, it's worth testing a small quantity before buying in bulk.
