The Dissent MK47 answers a question a lot of folks have been asking for years: what if you could get AK power and AK mags in a rifle with real AR ergonomics, minus the buffer tube? CMMG pulled it off by pairing their overbuilt Mk47 platform with the patented Compact Action from the Dissent line. The recoil system lives inside the upper receiver instead of behind it, so there is nothing hanging off the back of the gun. This one ships in pistol configuration with a 1913 Picatinny end plate at the rear, which leaves the door wide open for whatever setup you want to build around it.
Up front you get a 16.1 inch 4140CM barrel with a salt bath nitride finish, a 1:10 twist, and 5/8×24 threads wearing CMMG's ZEROED muzzle brake. The adjustable gas block is a genuinely useful touch, letting you dial the system in for steel case surplus, premium brass loads, or suppressed use without overgassing the gun. The forward mounted side charging handle does not reciprocate and can be swapped to either side, so you can rack it with your support hand and stay on the optic. CMMG also built in a manual bolt catch, which is handy for showing clear at the range and makes cleaning a lot less annoying, since most AK mags will not lock the bolt back on their own.
The receivers are machined from 7075 T6 aluminum, with a billet Mk47 lower sized to swallow AK pattern magazines, and the whole gun wears a Midnight Bronze Cerakote finish that looks as good as it wears. CMMG's ZEROED single stage trigger breaks clean at around 4.5 pounds, and the ZEROED 60/90 degree safety gives you a shorter, quicker throw than a standard selector. A 15 inch M-LOK handguard with a full length top Picatinny rail leaves plenty of room for lights, optics, and hand stops. At roughly 7.2 pounds, it balances well and handles like a proper mid-size AR, and CMMG backs it with their Lifetime Quality Guarantee.
Yes, that is one of the best parts of the Mk47 platform. The billet lower is built around AK pattern magazines, and this one ships with a 30-round Magpul AK PMAG. Since most AK mags will not hold the bolt open on the last round, CMMG added a manual bolt catch so you can still lock the action open for range checks and cleaning.
CMMG's patented Compact Action moves the recoil system into the upper receiver, using dual springs and guide rods above the bolt carrier. That eliminates the receiver extension entirely, and the rear of the gun wears a 1913 Picatinny end plate instead. It keeps the reliability of a direct impingement AR in a much shorter, more flexible package.
It is set up well for it. The 16.1 inch barrel is threaded 5/8×24 and comes with CMMG's ZEROED muzzle brake installed, so mounting a can is straightforward. The adjustable gas block lets you turn the gas down when running suppressed, which keeps the gun from getting overgassed and cuts down on blowback.
The charging handle sits forward on the left side and is non-reciprocating, so it stays put while the gun cycles. It is also reversible, so left-handed users can move it to the right side. The forward placement lets you run it with your support hand without breaking your firing grip or coming off target.
