The Rio Wing & Target is a solid all-around 20 gauge shell that won't leave your wallet empty. Loaded with 7/8 oz of #8 shot at 1250 fps, this 2-3/4 inch round handles everything from dove and quail to skeet and sporting clays with reliable, consistent performance.
Rio has been making shotgun ammunition since 1896, and their Wing & Target line has earned a following among hunters and clay shooters who value dependable ammo at reasonable prices. The brand manufactures at facilities in Spain and Texas, controlling their own component production from primers and powder to shot and hulls. This vertical integration means each shell is built to the same standards across the board.
The 1250 fps velocity strikes a balance between speed and recoil management, making it comfortable to shoot for extended sessions at the range without wearing you out. The #8 shot size works well for smaller upland game birds and produces tight, consistent patterns on clay targets. Feedback from regular users points to Rio shells performing reliably across a wide range of shotguns, from over-and-unders to semi-automatics, without the feeding issues some budget ammunition can cause.
This is ammunition designed for people who shoot regularly and don't want to spend premium prices on every box. Whether you're running a case through your gun at the trap field or grabbing a couple boxes for a weekend hunt, the Rio Wing & Target delivers the performance you'd expect without pretension. Each box contains 25 rounds, and Rio's consistent manufacturing means you'll get similar patterns from box to box.
The #8 shot size works best for small upland game like dove, quail, and rabbits, as well as clay target sports including trap, skeet, and sporting clays. It's not designed for waterfowl or larger game. The light recoil and consistent patterns make it ideal for range practice and improving your shooting skills.
Yes, these 2-3/4 inch shells are designed to cycle reliably in standard 20 gauge shotguns, including over-and-unders and semi-automatics. Always check your shotgun's manual to confirm it accepts 2-3/4 inch ammunition. Some users have noted these shells run slightly longer than other brands, so chamber fit can vary by gun.
At 1250 fps, Rio's Wing & Target sits in the middle range for target ammunition. Most clay sport loads run between 1200 and 1300 fps, so this velocity is standard and reliable. The speed pairs well with the 7/8 oz payload to deliver consistent, effective patterns without excessive recoil.
Rio has over a century of manufacturing experience and controls their entire production chain from components to finished shells. Most users report reliable function across multiple shotguns with consistent patterns. Rio ammunition is well-regarded for offering solid performance at competitive prices, making it a practical choice for regular shooters.
