Rio's Star Team EVO line represents years of research and development into what serious target shooters need. These HV loads are engineered with proprietary components and exacting quality controls, hitting hard from the moment you load them into your gun. At 1300 fps with a 1-1/8 oz payload of #8 shot, you get the velocity needed for distance shooting without excessive felt recoil beating you down over a long day at the range.
The 2.75 inch shell length keeps these compatible with virtually any 12 gauge, and the high-velocity formula gives you that edge when targets are stretching out. Whether you're running trap, skeet, sporting clays, or just punching paper, the velocity and payload combo delivers consistent patterns. Rio has built their reputation on understanding what clay shooters need, and these loads reflect that expertise.
Rio invests heavily in primer and powder selection to ensure every round fires when you pull the trigger. You won't waste a shot due to a misfire or hang fire. That reliability matters whether you're practicing or competing. The 25-round box is the standard format, perfect for a range session or to keep stocked for regular shooting.
These aren't light loads, but Rio engineered them to balance power with shooter comfort. You get legitimate high-velocity performance at 1300 fps while keeping recoil manageable enough to shoot all day without flinching into your next target. The lead shot is hard and properly sized for clean breaks on clays at all reasonable distances.
Rio builds these shells with proprietary component selection and strict manufacturing controls specifically for competition shooting. The high-velocity formula at 1300 fps gives you better downrange energy and allows you to shoot faster moving or more distant targets compared to standard 1200 fps loads. Every shell is designed to deliver the consistency that serious clay shooters demand.
No, these are specifically engineered for clay target shooting disciplines like trap, skeet, and sporting clays. The #8 shot size is too small for hunting most game birds. They're purpose-built target loads with performance characteristics optimized for breaking clays, not for field use.
These 2.75 inch shells should chamber in any 12 gauge shotgun designed for standard 2.75 inch ammunition. However, if your shotgun is marked for 3 inch or 3.5 inch shells only, these won't fit. Always check your shotgun's chamber length stamped on the barrel before purchasing. When in doubt, consult your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer.
Rio engineered these at 1300 fps to balance velocity with shootability. You'll feel noticeably less recoil than premium 1300+ fps loads in other brands, especially those with larger payloads. That said, they hit harder than training loads running 1200 fps, so expect moderate recoil over a full day of shooting. Many competitive shooters appreciate this middle ground for all-day practice sessions.
