If you're hitting the clay range regularly, Rio Top Game 12ga #9 shot gives you consistent performance without the premium price tag. These 2-3/4" shells load 1-1/4 ounces of lead #9 shot and cycle at 1250 feet per second, creating the kind of dense pellet pattern that keeps your scores up without requiring perfect aim on every target.
Number 9 shot has been the standard for skeet competition since the sport became an Olympic event, and for good reason. With hundreds of pellets per round, the high pellet count means you get a more forgiving margin of error than larger shot sizes. You don't need a direct hit to break a target. Close counts. That makes #9 the obvious choice if you're building confidence, practicing technique, or just trying to put more birds in the air without worrying about perfect placement.
Rio manufactures all their components in-house at their Texas facility, controlling everything from the brass to the primer to the wad. That vertical integration means tighter quality control and more consistent performance round after round. Real clay shooters have found Rio shells pattern just as well as shells costing twice as much per box. The ammunition goes bang, patterns tight, and won't leave you questioning reliability or consistency between boxes.
Number 9 shot creates a denser pellet pattern with hundreds of pellets per shell. This high pellet count gives you a larger margin for error on each shot since you don't need a direct hit to break a target. It's become the standard for skeet competition and works great for all three clay disciplines.
Rio ammunition is manufactured with proprietary components made in-house at their Texas facility, ensuring consistent quality and reliable performance across different shotgun designs. Real clay shooters report using Rio shells with excellent results in semi-automatics, over-unders, and pump shotguns without cycling issues.
Rio controls their entire supply chain and manufactures all components in-house, which keeps costs down without sacrificing quality. Multiple competitive shooters have reported that Rio shells pattern just as well as premium shells costing considerably more per box, making them exceptional value for practice and competition.
The 1250 fps velocity on Rio Top Game #9 is ideal for clay shooting disciplines. It provides plenty of energy for pattern density and target breaking while keeping recoil moderate for extended practice sessions. Faster isn't always better in clay sports—pattern consistency matters more than velocity.
