It's an ambidextrous charging handle for mil-spec AR-15 and M16 platforms, machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in a Type III hardcoat anodize in a subdued OD Green that plays well with just about any build.
This isn't just a handle with a couple of relief cuts stamped in it. The Sledgehammer uses a layered approach to gas management. A higher rear shelf blocks gas right at the opening, a keyway cut keeps gas from sneaking over that shelf, and internal baffling inside the stem creates turbulence to slow the gas expansion down. Whatever's left gets pushed out the sides through ported relief cuts on the top and bottom of the stem, sending it away from your eyes and nose. That's more going on than most upgraded handles bring to the table, and it really earns its keep on a suppressed rifle.
The wide, serrated latches are the other half of the story. You can grab either side and charge the rifle with a confident, positive purchase, and the aggressive texturing means it doesn't slip even with heavy gloves on. The footprint is wider than mil-spec for smooth, quick operation, but the low-profile shape keeps things slim so it doesn't snag on gear. At just 1.1 ounces, it adds barely any weight to your upper.
