It fires .338-caliber bullets from a necked-up 6.5 Creedmoor case, meaning it delivers serious weight downrange while still fitting standard .308 pattern magazines with no loss in capacity. This particular upper wears a 16.1" barrel with the signature 1:3 twist, spinning heavy subsonic rounds fast enough to stay accurate and hit like a truck, while still handling supersonic loads when you want to reach out further.
CMMG kept compatibility simple by basing the Mk3 platform on the popular Gen 1 DPMS high-pattern LR308 design. That means broad parts availability and plenty of room to customize down the road instead of fighting proprietary fitment. The receiver is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and wrapped in a durable Black Armor Cerakote finish that shrugs off wear and weather. Up top you get a flat-top rail for whatever optic your setup calls for, whether that's a red dot, an LPVO, or a full scope.
The 8.6 BLK was designed from the ground up around suppression, and this upper leans right into that. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24 and comes with CMMG's ZEROED muzzle brake installed.
