The Fiocchi Golden Pheasant shells bring real balance to pheasant season. You get plenty of shot at a velocity that works in the field without beating you up between drives. The 1-3/8 ounce load and #5 pellets make them versatile for early season birds that hold tight or late season roosters that need convincing.
Nickel-plated lead shot is the main advantage here. The plating keeps pellets rounder as they travel down the barrel and through the air, which means denser patterns downrange and better penetration when they connect. You'll notice this especially on late season birds with thicker feathers. The engineered wads do their job too, protecting the shot and keeping everything organized through the shot column.
Fiocchi developed these loads with serious upland work in mind. The 2.75 inch shell length fits any standard shotgun, and the 1250 feet per second velocity is proven effective for hunting. You won't need to lead birds excessively, and the shot density is solid across typical hunting ranges. Most hunters find #5 shot handles the job from early season through most of late season without switching loads.
These shells pattern well in properly choked 12 gauges out to 40 yards, and they stay effective well beyond that. The nickel plating helps maintain energy downrange compared to softer lead. If you're hunting over a dog and expecting closer flushes, these work great. If you're blocking or hunting wary birds in late season, the hard shot means you don't sacrifice performance even when pellets have to carry farther.
The nickel plating hardens each pellet and keeps them rounder as they travel through the barrel and air. This results in denser patterns at typical hunting ranges and better penetration when pellets reach the target. The harder shot deforms less, which is especially valuable on late season pheasants with thicker feathers.
The 1250 fps velocity and 1-3/8 ounce payload perform well from close-range flushes out to 40 yards in properly choked shotguns. Nickel-plated shot maintains energy beyond that distance better than standard lead, making it reliable even when birds flush farther out.
Yes. The #5 shot size and velocity make these suitable for grouse, chukar, and similar sized upland birds. Many hunters use them as a versatile all-season load for mixed upland hunting where they encounter multiple species in a day.
Yes, Fiocchi uses plastic hulls that can be reloaded. However, always follow safe reloading practices and verify that your reloading equipment is suitable for the specific hull specifications.
