The K in VP9A1 K stands for Kompakt, which is exactly what this is — HK's first true compact in the VP9 series, now in Tactical trim with everything you need to run a suppressor or red dot right out of the box. The 4.7-inch barrel is hammer-forged from HK's proprietary cannon-grade steel and comes threaded at M13.5×1 left-hand pitch, the standard metric thread HK uses across its 9mm line. Suppressor-height sights are already on it, providing a 1/3 co-witness through the window of a red dot while staying visible over the top of most suppressors. No extra parts, no gunsmithing, no waiting.
The optics-ready slide uses HK's nine-plate adapter system, which covers just about every popular footprint on the market including Trijicon, Holosun, EOTech, Leupold, and Meopta. The A1 trigger is one of the better factory striker triggers you'll find anywhere, featuring a nickel-Teflon coated trigger bar that gives it a noticeably smoother pull and clean break. Reviews and range testing have consistently put the break right around 5 pounds with short overtravel and a quick reset. The VP9 line has earned a real reputation in law enforcement circles for improving qualification scores, and the A1 updates didn't touch the mechanical foundation that earned it.
The grip system is where the VP9A1 really separates itself from the competition. The A1 ditched the original VP9's finger grooves for a neutral front strap that fits more hands out of the box, and the interchangeable backstraps and side panels now offer up to 54 possible configurations, including extended backstraps that let you dial in the length of pull. The frame also features a factory-flared magwell, front and rear maritime serrations on the slide, and fully ambidextrous controls including the signature HK paddle magazine release and oversized slide releases. A Picatinny rail on the front of the frame handles weapon lights or lasers.
This pistol ships with two 15-round magazines, interchangeable grip panels and backstraps, and documentation. It's a strong pick for home defense, duty use, or anyone building a suppressed 9mm pistol setup without wanting to cobble together a bunch of aftermarket parts.
The VP9A1 K Tactical uses M13.5×1 left-hand thread, which is HK's standard metric pitch across its 9mm threaded-barrel pistols. Most 9mm suppressors sold in the US come with a 1/2×28 piston, so you'll likely need an M13.5×1 LH booster or thread adapter to attach your suppressor. It's worth confirming with your suppressor manufacturer before you buy.
The slide comes with a proprietary optics cut that works with nine available adapter plates, covering most of the popular red dot footprints on the market including Trijicon RMR, Holosun 507C/509/SCS, EOTech EFLX, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Meopta, and Vortex Defender CCW. No gunsmithing is needed — you select the correct adapter plate for your optic and mount it directly. The suppressor-height sights provide a 1/3 co-witness through the optic window.
The Tactical model adds three key elements that the standard K doesn't include from the factory: the 4.7-inch threaded barrel (versus the standard 4.09-inch non-threaded barrel), suppressor-height sights that allow you to see over most suppressors, and the M13.5×1 LH thread ready for a suppressor or compensator. Everything else — the A1 trigger, grip system, optics cut, and ambidextrous controls — is shared across both models.
