Patriot Ordnance Factory made its name on gas piston ARs, and the P-415 Edge is the upper that shows exactly why people keep coming back. Instead of dumping hot carbon and gas straight back into the receiver the way a standard direct impingement AR does, this one runs a short-stroke piston system. The payoff is a rifle that stays cleaner, runs cooler on long range days, and spends less time on the cleaning bench. Drop it onto any mil-spec AR-15 lower and you have a complete top end ready to go.
The heart of this thing is a 5-position adjustable piston-driven gas system. That means you can dial it down for suppressed shooting or open it up when conditions get nasty and dirty, and it just keeps cycling. Feeding it all is a 16.5 inch barrel made from 4150 CrMoV steel with a black nitride heat treatment for solid wear and corrosion resistance. It is cut with 5R rifling in a 1:8 twist and capped with a triple-port muzzle brake on 1/2×28 threads. That twist rate is a versatile middle ground, happily stabilizing everything from lightweight 55 grain plinking loads up to heavier 77 grain match bullets.
POF slimmed down the handguard on the Edge, trimming the size by close to 20 percent and bringing the width to a lean 1.75 inches. That free-floating M-LOK rail makes it easy to maneuver through tight spots and hang lights, lasers, or a bipod wherever you want them. Up top you get an ambidextrous Tomahawk charging handle, which lefties will appreciate, plus a piston bolt carrier group with a roller cam pin and POF's E2 dual-extraction technology that helps kick spent brass loose and cut down on stuck cases. The billet forged upper ships with the forward assist installed and a U.S. flag laser-engraved ejection port cover for a nice finishing touch.
Bottom line, this is a serious all-purpose 5.56 top end for anyone who wants piston reliability and the flexibility to run it suppressed. Bolt it to your favorite lower and you are ready to build.
Yes, this complete upper is designed to drop onto any standard mil-spec AR-15 or M4 lower receiver. The piston system is fully self-contained in the upper, so there is no need to modify your lower. Just mate the two, pop in your pins, and you are ready to run.
