Plenty of folks buy a factory AR and immediately strip off the handguard, stock, and rear sight to put on the parts they wanted in the first place. Colt built the LE6920-OEM2 for exactly those people. It's the proven LE6920 M4 Carbine underneath, minus the furniture, so you start with a real Colt core and finish it your way without a pile of takeoff parts collecting dust in a drawer.
The heart of this rifle is the same 16.1 inch chrome-lined barrel that made the LE6920 a household name, with a 1:7 twist that stabilizes everything from light varmint loads to heavy 77 grain match ammo. The gas system runs direct impingement with a low-profile gas block instead of the traditional A2 front sight tower, and Colt skips the handguard retaining ring entirely. That combination means most free-float handguards that work with a standard USGI barrel nut slide right on, no wrench fights or gas block swaps required. Up top you get a flat top upper with a Picatinny rail, so mounting a red dot, LPVO, or backup irons is straightforward.
Receivers are forged aluminum with a matte black finish, and the fit between upper and lower is what you'd expect from Hartford. An A2 pistol grip and Colt's mil-spec trigger group come installed, and the rifle wears an A2 flash hider on the muzzle. Overall length runs 32 inches with the buffer tube in place, waiting on whatever stock you prefer.
Plan on adding a stock, handguard, trigger guard, rear sight or optic, and magazines to complete the rifle. That short shopping list is the whole point. The 1:7 twist is one of the most versatile rates on an AR and handles a wide spread of bullet weights. It really shines with heavier 62 to 77 grain loads, but it shoots common 55 grain range ammo just fine too. The chamber accepts both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington, which keeps your options wide open.
