There is a good reason the TBP 12 keeps showing up at ranges everywhere. By moving the action behind the grip, Tokarev fit a full-length 18.5 inch proof-tested 4140 steel barrel into a shotgun that measures only 28.5 inches from muzzle to recoil pad. That means you keep the velocity and pattern performance of a standard barrel while gaining a gun that swings through doorways and handles in tight quarters like something half its size. The rearward weight balance settles into your shoulder, so it points fast and stays controllable through quick follow-up shots.
This one wears a Flat Dark Earth polymer chassis with an adjustable cheek riser and an angled foregrip that doubles as a hand stop. The 3 inch chamber runs both 2.75 and 3 inch shells, and feeding comes from detachable T-1919 pattern magazines. A 5-rounder ships in the box, and aftermarket mags up to 20 rounds drop right in when you want more capacity for range days. The AR-style thumb safety keeps the controls familiar, and the flip-up front and rear sights get you on target out of the box. A full-length Picatinny top rail plus additional rail space underneath leave plenty of room for a red dot, light, or whatever else you want to hang on it.
Tokarev includes three Benelli Mobil pattern choke tubes, Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, along with a wrench, so you can tighten up buckshot patterns for defensive work or open things up for busting clays. At around 7.5 pounds, the TBP 12 soaks up recoil better than you would expect from a compact 12 gauge, and the integral recoil pad keeps longer sessions comfortable. Like most semi-auto shotguns, it tends to run best with quality 1 ounce or heavier loads, especially during break-in. It ships with one 5-round magazine and runs standard T-1919 pattern shotgun mags, the same style used by most AR-12 type shotguns. Aftermarket magazines are available in capacities up to 20 rounds. One thing to note: because of the bullpup layout, drum magazines will not fit since the mag well sits close to the buttstock.
Yes, the 3 inch chamber handles both 2.75 and 3 inch shells. Like most gas-operated semi-auto shotguns, it cycles most reliably with quality loads in the 1 ounce and heavier range, so feed it good buckshot or heavier field loads during break-in before switching to light target ammo.
The ejection port sits on the right side, so it is set up primarily for right-handed use. That said, the charging handle can be swapped to either side, and plenty of lefties run this platform without issue. There is no dedicated left-handed version at this time.
Absolutely. The full-length Picatinny top rail takes red dots and other optics with no extra hardware, and the included flip-up sights fold flat so they stay out of the way. There is additional rail space under the barrel for lights, lasers, or a different foregrip if you want to swap the included angled grip.
