The Trijicon HD XR is a refinement of the popular HD night sight, built for pistol owners who want the front sight to do the heavy lifting. It runs a three-dot green tritium setup, but the standout feature is the narrower front post measured at .122 inches wide. That slimmer blade opens up your field of view on either side, so you can see more of your target and get on it quicker, which really shows its worth as distance stretches out.
The front sight carries a single green tritium lamp ringed by a bright orange photoluminescent outline. In daylight that orange ring grabs your eye and pulls your focus right where it belongs, and when the sun drops all three tritium dots light up green so you keep a clear sight picture in the dark. The rear is a wide U-shaped notch with a blacked-out surround, which is intentional. There are no distracting rear dots competing for attention, so your eye naturally settles on the front post for faster alignment.
Trijicon houses each tritium lamp inside an aluminum sleeve capped with a sapphire jewel, cushioned by silicone to soak up recoil and rough handling. A protective clear coat shields the paint from powder residue and cleaning solvents so the color stays sharp over years of carry and range time. The rear notch is angled and serrated to knock down glare, and the whole set sits in a steel housing with a matte black finish.
This set is cut for standard-frame Glock models including the 17, 17L, 19, 22 through 28, 31 through 35, and 37 through 39. It does not fit MOS-configured slides. Trijicon backs the green tritium lamps with a 12-year warranty from date of manufacture, and professional installation is recommended since the front sight in particular calls for the right tool to seat it correctly.
This set is designed for standard-frame Glocks, covering the 17, 17L, 19, 22 through 28, 31 through 35, and 37 through 39. It does not fit MOS-configured models. If you are running a standard non-MOS slide in 9mm, .40, .357 SIG, or .45 GAP, you are good to go.
The main difference is the front post. The HD XR uses a thinner .122 inch front blade compared to the wider standard HD front, which opens up your field of view and helps with target identification at longer distances. Everything else, including the green tritium lamps and orange front outline, carries over.
Trijicon recommends professional installation, and a sight pusher or front sight tool makes the job much cleaner. The front sight in particular is worth having the proper tool for so it seats correctly and stays put. Many owners have a gunsmith handle the swap to be safe.
The green tritium lamps are warranted for 12 years from the date of manufacture. Tritium naturally dims over time as it dissipates, so you will get years of reliable low-light glow before it fades. The sapphire jewel caps also help distribute the light evenly for a crisp dot.
