Description

Charter Arms took their long-running Pathfinder Target, gave it a real refresh, and the Pathfinder II is the result. This model 12235 is the all-black version, wearing a black passivate finish over a small frame and eight-shot cylinder machined from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum. That material choice is why the whole revolver comes in at just 20 ounces, light enough to ride in a pack or on your hip all day without you noticing it.

What Sets the Pathfinder II Apart

The 3.5 inch extruded stainless steel barrel wears a vent rib up top and a stainless compensator out front to tame what little muzzle rise a .22 produces, so follow-up shots stay quick and flat. Sights are where this gun earns its keep at the range. You get a blaze orange aluminum ramp up front that jumps out against paper or brush, paired with a rear sight that adjusts for windage and elevation. Dial it in for your favorite bulk ammo and it will hold that zero. The double action pull is smooth and the single action option lets you slow down for tighter groups, which makes this a genuinely useful trainer for anyone learning revolver fundamentals.

A .22 Wheelgun That Earns Its Range Time

With rimfire ammo being about the cheapest trigger time you can buy, an eight-shot .22 revolver like this makes a lot of sense as the gun that comes along on every range trip. It has the feel and manual of arms of a bigger centerfire revolver without the recoil or the ammo bill, so it works just as well for a first-time shooter as it does for an old hand who wants low-cost practice on trigger control and sight alignment. The compact dimpled rubber grip fills the hand nicely for its size, and the serrated cylinder latch is easy to run.

Charter Arms has been building revolvers in Connecticut since 1964, everything is 100 percent American made, and the Pathfinder II is backed by their lifetime warranty. For plinking, small game, or teaching the next shooter in the family, this one checks a lot of boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Pathfinder II and the original Pathfinder Target?

The Pathfinder II is Charter Arms' update to the popular Pathfinder Target model. The biggest changes are the 7075 aircraft aluminum frame and cylinder that bring the weight down to 20 ounces, a 3.5 inch vent rib stainless barrel with a compensator, and a high-visibility orange ramp front sight. It keeps the eight-shot capacity and adjustable rear sight the original was known for.

Is the Charter Arms Pathfinder II a good revolver for beginners?

It's one of the better starter wheelguns out there. The .22 LR chambering means almost no recoil and cheap ammo, while the double action/single action trigger and adjustable sights let a new shooter build real fundamentals. It also has the feel of a larger centerfire revolver, so skills transfer over nicely when they step up in caliber.

Does the Pathfinder II have adjustable sights?

Yes. The rear sight adjusts for both windage and elevation, so you can zero it to your preferred ammo and distance. Up front there's a blaze orange aluminum ramp sight that stands out fast against most backgrounds, which makes it quick to pick up whether you're punching paper or after small game.

Is the Pathfinder II covered by a warranty?

It is. Charter Arms backs all of their revolvers with a lifetime warranty. These guns are built entirely in the USA at their facility in Shelton, Connecticut, where the company has been making revolvers since 1964.
