Description

The FightLite MCR (Mission Configurable Rifle) Dual Feed upper is one of the few production uppers that lets you run belted ammo on an AR-15 platform. It drops onto any mil-spec AR15/M16/M4 lower without permanent modification, and it's even backward compatible with lowers built as far back as the 1960s. The magic is in the dual-feed design: you can run standard AR-15/M16 box magazines or M27 linked belts, and switching between the two takes seconds with no tools. That flexibility is the whole point of the platform, and it's what has made this the go-to option for folks who want SAW-style sustained fire without the machine gun price tag.

What Sets the MCR Dual Feed Apart

Under the top cover you get a short-stroke gas piston system, which is a big part of why the MCR shrugs off dirt, carbon, and heat better than a direct-impingement setup. The upper receiver, feed cover, and charging handle are machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum, with a billet steel feed tray built for the kind of abuse belt-fed guns see. Finish is manganese phosphate paired with a Type III Class 2 hardcoat anodize in black, so it holds up in rough conditions.

Barrel and Handling on the 12.5" MCR

This version wears a 12.5-inch quick-change barrel with a 1:7 twist, 1/2×28 threads, and chrome lining. The quick-change setup lets you pull and swap the barrel in a matter of seconds, which is genuinely handy during long strings of fire when things heat up. Up top there's a MIL-STD 1913 rail at 12 o'clock for optics, plus M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for lights, grips, and whatever else you run. An adjustable sight set is included so you're ready to go out of the box.

Getting the Most From Your MCR Upper

These uppers reward a proper break-in. Plan on running a few hundred rounds and doing a good cleaning before you expect flawless belt feeding, and stick with the FightLite-supplied M27 links since not all links feed the same. A heavier buffer helps the bolt strip rounds cleanly off the belt, so pay attention to your buffer setup. Dial it in and you've got a belt-capable AR that's a genuine blast at the range and built to last.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the FightLite MCR Dual Feed upper fit my AR-15 lower?

Yes, it's designed as a drop-on upper for standard mil-spec AR15/M16/M4 lowers with no permanent modification to your lower. It's even compatible with lowers going back to the early days of the platform. Keep in mind the MCR uses a non-standard magazine catch to accommodate the wider receiver, and one is included so you can set up your lower correctly.

Does the MCR upper run in full-auto?

The upper itself functions in semi-automatic mode on a standard semi-auto AR lower. It will only fire full-auto if the host firearm is set up with the appropriate registered components. For most owners this runs as a semi-auto belt-fed, which is still a whole lot of fun downrange.

Why does the MCR need a break-in period?

Belt-fed systems benefit from a break-in of a few hundred rounds along with a thorough cleaning to smooth everything out. After that, owners consistently report reliable feeding from both belts and magazines. Sticking with the FightLite-supplied M27 links and running a heavier buffer makes a real difference in getting clean belt feeding.

Can I use my own linked ammo with the MCR Dual Feed?

You can run M27 linked 5.56 ammunition, and the upper ships with 100 quality steel M27 links to get you started. Not all links feed the same, so most owners find the FightLite-provided links give the smoothest results. You can also run any standard AR-15/M16 magazine when you'd rather feed from a mag.
