Midwest Industries built the AK Alpha Railed Top Cover to put that headache to bed by turning the top of your rifle into a genuine mounting surface you can trust round after round.
This one is machined from 6061 aluminum and wears a hard coat anodized finish, so it holds up to the same rough handling an AK invites. It only works with the MI AK Alpha Series handguards, specifically the ALPHA6 and ALPHA10.0. That is by design. The system anchors through the handguard using two aluminum and two steel stability struts, which is what gives you the rigid, repeatable lockup that flimsier rail covers just cannot match. An adjustable locking block lets you dial in a snug fit across most AK builds, and a purpose-made recoil spring button keeps everything indexing the same way each time.
The headline feature is return to zero. Patented internal components let you open and close the cover for cleaning or maintenance and get your optic back on target without a fresh trip to the range to re-zero. The lockup is tight enough to keep dust and grit out of the action, which is the whole point of a dust cover in the first place. You also keep your factory rear sight in play with a lower 1/3 cowitness picture, so your irons stay usable as a backup.
Installation calls for the MI Alpha handguard to already be on the rifle before you fit the cover, since the two cannot go on at the same time. The upside is that no permanent modifications are needed. If you ever want to return the rifle to stock form, you can pull the whole setup back off. For anyone running an AK Alpha handguard who wants a full-length top rail without drilling or welding, this is the clean way to get there.
It is built to work only with the Midwest Industries AK Alpha Series handguards, specifically the MI-AK-ALPHA6 and MI-AK-ALPHA10.0. It is not compatible with other Midwest Industries handguard generations or other brands. You will need to have that Alpha handguard on your rifle before this cover can go on.
