The WMD Guns NIB-X BCG with Hammer takes one of the hardest working parts in your AR-15 and coats it in nickel boron so it runs cleaner, cycles smoother, and shrugs off carbon build-up. This is a complete, assembled group for .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO builds, and it ships with a coated hammer so you can freshen up your fire control at the same time you drop in the new bolt carrier. WMD is one of the few makers that designs its components specifically to be coated, which is why the fit and finish come out so clean.
The NiB-X finish is the whole story here. It measures around Rc72, which puts it well above chrome, Melonite, and nitride finishes for hardness, and WMD backs it with a lifetime guarantee against chipping, spalling, or flaking. In government protocol endurance testing the coating survived more than 30,000 rounds without wearing off. Because the surface is so slick, with a coefficient of friction around .07, it needs very little lubrication and most fouling wipes right off with a dry cloth. That makes it a strong pick for suppressed guns and short barrels where carbon really piles up.
Underneath the coating this is a proper mil-spec build. The bolt is Carpenter 158 steel, shot peened and magnetic particle inspected, running mil-spec gas rings. The carrier is 8620 steel in the M16 full-auto profile, heat treated and case hardened with tightly controlled internal tolerances. The gas key is hardened to USGI spec, sealed, and staked with grade 8 fasteners, and the extractor uses a heavy duty spring with a black insert. Everything is built to government drawings, so it drops into a standard AR-15 upper with no fitting.

Yes. It is built to government drawings and mil-spec dimensions, so it drops into any standard AR-15 upper chambered in 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington with no fitting or modification. It is made for direct impingement uppers. If you run a proprietary or non-standard upper, it is worth double-checking fit before installing.
Very little. The NiB-X coating is self-lubricating and has a very low coefficient of friction, so a light film of quality oil on the key contact surfaces is plenty. There is no special break-in required, and you can run it right out of the box.
This model uses the M16 full-auto profile carrier, which is the heavier, more common configuration. Installing a full-auto profile carrier in a semi-automatic AR-15 does not change how the gun fires; it will still function as a normal semi-auto rifle. Many builders prefer the full-auto profile for its extra weight and smoother cycling.
