Description
If you dry fire your FN 509 or FN 503 on a regular basis, you've probably wondered how much abuse the factory striker can actually take before something gives. Apex Tactical set out to answer that question with the Durable Striker, a direct swap for the stock part that was put through more than three years of development and over a million logged dry fire cycles before it ever hit the shelf.
Why the Durable Striker Exists
Most factory strikers aren't designed with heavy dry fire practice in mind, especially not on an empty chamber. Apex built this one from heat-treated tool steel and finished it with a nickel Teflon coating that cuts down on friction and wear over the long haul. The result is a striker that's certified for up to 100,000 empty-chamber dry fires, with in-house testing pushing well past that number during development.
Trigger Feel on the FN 509/503
Beyond durability, Apex reworked the sear catch geometry to tighten up engagement between the sear and striker. That translates to a cleaner, more consistent trigger break every time you press it, whether you're running the factory trigger or pairing this with one of Apex's trigger kits. It's a subtle change on paper but one you'll notice the first few times you run the gun.
Installing the Apex Durable Striker
This is a drop-in part, so there's no fitting or machining involved, just swap out the factory striker and you're set. Apex includes a proprietary buffer that needs to be installed in the slide along with the striker, since running it without that buffer isn't something the company recommends. A 6mm x 60mm socket head cap screw is also included, which doubles as a removal tool for future cleaning or maintenance. Everything is made in the USA and covers the full FN 509 lineup, the FN 503, FNS-C, and FNS models, though it's not intended for the larger frame FN 545 or FN 510 pistols.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Apex Durable Striker fit my FN 509 Tactical or Compact model?
Yes, this striker is built to work across the entire FN 509 lineup, including the Tactical and Compact variants, along with the FN 503, FNS-C, and FNS pistols. It's not designed for the larger frame FN 545 or FN 510, so keep that in mind if you're shopping for one of those models.
Do I have to install the buffer that comes with the Durable Striker?
Yes, the buffer is a required part of the install, not an optional accessory. It's designed to absorb the shock created during dry fire, and running the striker without it isn't something Apex recommends for long term reliability.
Can I dry fire on an empty chamber with this striker installed?
That's actually the main reason this striker exists. It's certified for up to 100,000 empty-chamber dry fires, and Apex ran their own testing well beyond that number during development, so it holds up to the kind of repetitive dry practice that would eventually wear out a factory striker.
Is installing the Apex Durable Striker something I can do myself?
Since it's a drop-in replacement, most owners with some experience field stripping their pistol can handle the swap at home. The included socket head cap screw doubles as a removal tool, which makes getting the old striker and buffer out a lot easier.
