Anybody who has run their AR hard has seen it happen: the factory trigger and hammer pins start creeping out of the receiver during long strings of fire. Over time that rotation and walk wears out the pin holes, and once a receiver is elongated, there's no putting that back. The KNS Precision Gen2 non-rotating pin set is the fix. Instead of relying on friction from the trigger and hammer springs, it uses a pair of external side plates that bolt the two pins together and lock them solid so nothing rotates or walks, ever.
These are .154 diameter pins, which is the standard mil-spec size that fits most AR-15, M16, and AR-10 lower parts kits. The pins are CNC-machined from stainless steel and heat treated, with black nitride side plates for a clean, low-profile look and solid wear resistance. KNS builds them tough enough to handle the pounding of full-auto and rapid semi-auto fire, including 9mm conversions and suppressed .223 and 7.62 setups, so they'll shrug off whatever your build throws at them.
Installation is refreshingly simple and needs no permanent changes to your rifle. The kit ships with a conical brass installation tool that keeps tension on your trigger group while you swap the pins, plus the Torx wrenches and screws you'll need. Snug the side plate screws to the recommended torque and you're done. A nice touch is the lube port that lets you inject a little oil right into the pin area for easy maintenance down the road.
Beyond stopping pin walk, these pins do a great job tightening up the slop that shows up in some match and drop-in triggers, which cleans up an inconsistent trigger pull. They're a favorite pairing for aftermarket triggers from the likes of Timney, Geissele, and Rise Armament. For a small part that installs in minutes, it's one of the more worthwhile things you can add to a lower.

Keep in mind that receiver widths can vary slightly between manufacturers in the pin area. If the pins end up a touch long, that won't affect function, and they can be filed down evenly from both ends if you want a flush fit.
No permanent modification is needed. The pins drop in like standard trigger and hammer pins, and the external side plates simply bolt them in place with Torx screws. That means you can add these without hurting the resale value of your lower.
In many cases, yes. Beyond their main job of stopping pin rotation and walk, these pins can take up some of the free play found in match and drop-in triggers, which smooths out an inconsistent pull. If your trigger group is already well fitted, the improvement will be smaller, but the pin-locking benefit still applies.
There is no strength or performance difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 2 Mod 2 side plates. The only difference between them is cosmetic. Both lock your pins down exactly the same way.
