CMMG MkW-15 Lancer L5 10rd .458 SOCOM AR-15 Magazine

Description

The .458 SOCOM brings serious stopping power to the AR-15 platform, but only if your magazine can keep up. This is where the CMMG MkW-15 Lancer L5 10-round magazine steps in. CMMG took one of the most proven magazine platforms on the market and modified it specifically for the unique demands of big-bore AR ammunition.

Why a dedicated .458 SOCOM magazine matters comes down to cartridge geometry. The .458 SOCOM is a significantly wider round than 5.56 NATO, which means standard AR magazines won't feed it reliably. A standard 30-round 5.56 magazine might physically hold 10 rounds of .458 SOCOM, but that doesn't guarantee reliable function under field conditions. This magazine solves that problem with modified feed-lip geometry that secures the larger cartridge without weakening the steel feed lips through machining.

Design and Construction Behind the MkW-15 Lancer L5

The foundation here is Lancer's L5 Advanced Warfighter Magazine, which combines a proprietary polymer body with hardened steel feed lips. The polymer offers impact resistance and durability without the weight penalty of all-steel construction, while the steel feed lips handle the real work. CMMG's modification refines the feed-lip shape to work across the full spectrum of .458 SOCOM ammunition on the market, from budget-range rounds to premium hunting loads and everything in between.

The magazine features a non-tilt follower and stainless steel spring for smooth, snag-free feeding. It's laser engraved with .458 SOCOM caliber identification, and the aggressive surface texturing makes it easy to manipulate during mag changes. The removable floorplate means you can field-strip it in seconds for inspection or cleaning.

Practical Performance for .458 SOCOM Shooters

The 10-round capacity works for most shooting applications. It's the standard for a .458 SOCOM full-size magazine, and 10 rounds is compact enough for hunting while still offering respectable firepower for range days. If needed, the magazine can physically hold 11 rounds of .458 SOCOM when forced, though CMMG rates it for 10-round reliable operation. Interestingly, this same magazine body will still accept 30 rounds of 5.56 NATO since it's modified from a standard 30-round platform, though we'd recommend keeping them loaded with .458 SOCOM to avoid any confusion.

For anyone running a serious .458 SOCOM build, having a magazine designed from the ground up for the cartridge removes one variable from reliability. You're not adapting general-purpose equipment to a specialized application; you're using a tool built for the job.
